Finished the frickin' scarf!

I just finished knitting my first scarf!
This would not be a monumentous occasion except that I started knitting this thing, no joke, in March of 2005 when I was visiting
rizzo41 in New York and she taught me how to knit. She gave me a couple of needles and cast on some blue yarn and taught me how to knit and purl. Later, she gave me some old yarn of hers and two needles and told me to have at it for the bus ride home. And I did - I got into it and knitted throughout the bus ride, and then for a night or two after.
And then, like most other crafty things I have ever started in my life, I put it down and never picked it up again. Now and again I would do a couple of rows and then life would get in the way or I would forget about it again.
When Lara was visiting, she had about a hundred little knitting projects and then we took a side trip to Circles because she wanted some yarn, and I swore that I would finish that frickin' scarf that I was originally going to give to my grandmother for, don't laugh, Easter of 2005. Whoops.
I had to teach myself to cast off via teh internets, but I did, and it's finished, and I can give it to Grandma for Christmas or something. It is easily the ugliest thing I have ever seen... well, no, but the ugliest thing I have ever made with my own two hands.
