Can't. Stop. Crying! AAAH!

The One Who Knows
by: Dar Williams

Time it was I had a dream
And you're that dream come true.
If I had the world to give
I'd give it all to you.
I'll take you to the mountains,
I will take you to the sea.
I'll show you how this life became a miracle to me.

You'll fly away, but take my hand until that day.
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done you'll be the one who knows.

All the things you treasure most
will be the hardest won.
I will watch you struggle long
before the answers come.
But I won't make it harder,
I'll be there to cheer you on.
I'll shine the light that guides you down
The road you're walking on.

You'll fly away, but take my hand until that day.
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done you'll be the one who knows.

Before the mountains call to you,
before you leave this home,
Wanna teach your heart to trust
As I will teach my own.
But sometimes I will ask the moon
Where it shined upon you last
And shake my head and laugh and say
It all went by so fast.

You'll fly away, but take my hand until that day.
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done you'll be the one who knows.

That is one of my all time favorite songs, and you will be that kind of Mom. :-)

I wish I could be that kind of mom! I'll be the kind that lands the kid in therapy, I'm sure. :)

Yeah, it's a real kick in the pants.

(Nice to hear from you!)

This is definitely one of my weepy songs... even just seeing the lyrics makes me tear up.

(Why yes, I am a sappy, sentimental fool, thank you for noticing! ;o} )

Yeah, I don't think it made me weepy until I got knocked up. :)

I like sentimental fools!

Oh no! Sorry for spreading the sap disease!

That song makes me cry every single time I hear it.

It just started to get to me. I think I'm doomed.

Oh my god. That song nearly killed me the first time I heard it. So very exactly true.

I just love Dar so much.

I remember when Dar sang that a couple of years ago at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and dedicated it to the sign-language interpreter -tears were streaming down her face as she was signing; it was beautiful. Of course, all of us in the audience were weepy too; don't you just love those cathartic songs? :) BTW, Dar just confirmed for Falcon Ridge THIS year! Whoopee! -Jill

I have never gone to Falcon Ridge. Or any other FF for that matter. I should someday - I just don't know if '07 is going to be the year. Maybe next year with the kid!
