We are supposed to have our new sectional sofa delivered today. And by "today" I mean "probably sometime between 8:30 and 12:30." Are you kidding me? The furniture store is literally down the street from me! Can I maybe get a better time frame? Blah! I sent Punk and Jennifer out to play so that she wasn't in the house all morning begging to watch this show or that show or getting bored watching me sweep and clean.

Jen wants to start reorganizing and cleaning the basement. I think that's a good idea, it's just terribly overwhelming to think about. Not only is all of OUR random crap in there, but a lot of random crap from my father's house is down there, too. We need to get approximately 3 billion storage totes and then maybe some shelving units so it's all stacked up nicey nice. We got a $100 gift card to Lowe's once from my mother for some holiday, and that will come in handy, except that the Lowe's is way out in East Springfield. Whine whine whine.

I finally hung up a piece of artwork that my brother and SIL bought for us in, oh, 2007? I don't know why we never did, it's really nice. Actually, it's not hung at all where I would like it (it would look perfect over the mantle) but the previous owners left a bunch of screws in the wall so I just put it on some. Good enough for now. I really don't know how people (read: Patti, Amy) manage to do all kinds of house projects and yard projects with toddlers/kids around. How is this possible? I can't wrap my mind around it. I know that if I spent an hour cleaning and had Punk in her room, she would have everything out of and off of every surface and it would be all over the floor. :)

I can't even tell you the last time I listened to music in the house. We should bring up the little stereo so we can have music in the house more often.

Okay, I am totally a major nerd, but I am LOVING this "Heartless" cover on Idol.

I feel so freaking White right now.

I would like to hear more about what relaxes you, what music makes you emotional.

I am not very good at relaxing. At all. I am not very good at doing nothing, or lounging around, or whatever. But I do like to have fun! So these are some of the things I think are fun: spending time with Jen, hanging out with friends, going to the ocean, hiking/camping, enjoying a little alcohol, and making out. Preferably combinations of these. Heck, if Jen and I could hike out to the ocean, camp with some friends, have a few beers by the fire and then make out, I think I would be all set!

As for music, pretty much all music makes me emotional. Well, except for music that sucks. There are a few Dar Williams songs that kick me in the gut ("The One Who Knows" is one) because of the content, and Ani DiFranco's "Gratitude" makes me bawl like a baby in the right mood, but really any song can make me emotional in the right context or if I have the right associations with it. I love music. LOVE. Especially live. Pretty much any music, when live, can get me going.

I have this song in my head and I don't even know most of the words, so it is driving me bonkers! It is a churchy song and I know that it was originally a Spanish hymn but has been translated into English. I tried to Google it and came up empty. I am going mad. MAD I TELL YOU!

Oh Jesus, you have looked into my eyes,
blah blah blah blah, you called out my name,
in the sand I have abandoned my small boat,
now with you, I ?will sail other seas?

I can keep humming the tune for the verses, but I am driving myself totally crazy. I can't believe Google has failed me! DAMN YOU, GOOGLE!

I just put on a little Peter, Paul and Mary "Around the Campfire" courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] redwink and after one song, little punk is sound asleep.

Somehow just the idea of a baby. OUR baby, sleeping in my arms to PPM makes me misty. I dreamed of these days.

Comment and I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list 10 of your favorite songs that begin with that letter.

Panic - The Smiths
Piano Man - Billy Joel
Pop Goes The World - Men Without Hats
Power of Two - Indigo Girls
Pretty in Pink - Psychedelic Furs
Promise, The - When in Rome
Punk Rock Wonderland - Fifteen
Push It - Salt N Pepa
Pass the Mic - Beastie Boys
People Who Died - The Jim Carroll Band

Man, I can never decide. I originally had a list of like 15. Whoops.

Does anyone out there on teh internets have Peter, Paul and Mary CDs that they might want to *cough*burn*cough* share with me? I'm a big PPM nerd but all of my stuff is on cassette tape (yeah, I've been a big nerd for a long time) and I'd really like to listen to them again without having to go get one of the stereos set up.

If not, aah well, it was worth a nerdy shot. :)
Thanks!

Can't. Stop. Crying! AAAH!

The One Who Knows
by: Dar Williams

Time it was I had a dream
And you're that dream come true.
If I had the world to give
I'd give it all to you.
I'll take you to the mountains,
I will take you to the sea.
I'll show you how this life became a miracle to me.

You'll fly away, but take my hand until that day.
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done you'll be the one who knows.

All the things you treasure most
will be the hardest won.
I will watch you struggle long
before the answers come.
But I won't make it harder,
I'll be there to cheer you on.
I'll shine the light that guides you down
The road you're walking on.

You'll fly away, but take my hand until that day.
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done you'll be the one who knows.

Before the mountains call to you,
before you leave this home,
Wanna teach your heart to trust
As I will teach my own.
But sometimes I will ask the moon
Where it shined upon you last
And shake my head and laugh and say
It all went by so fast.

You'll fly away, but take my hand until that day.
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done you'll be the one who knows.

By way of [livejournal.com profile] siercia, [livejournal.com profile] smurfbrother, [livejournal.com profile] scirocco, and [livejournal.com profile] jost:

From the multitudes: When you see this in your friends' page, post some 1980s lyrics in your journal!

Swan Swan H - R.E.M. - Life's Rich Pageant, 1986

Swan, swan, hummingbird
Hurrah, we are all free now
What noisy cats are we
Girl and dog he bore his cross
A long, low time ago, people talk to me

Johnny Reb what’s the price of fans
Forty a piece or three for one dollar?
Hey captain don’t you want to buy
Some bone chains and toothpicks?

Night wings, her hair chains,
Here’s your wooden greenback, sing
Wooden beams and dovetail sweep
I struck that picture ninety times,
I walked that path a hundred ninety,
Long, low time ago, people talk to me

A pistol hot cup of rhyme
The whiskey is water, the water is wine
Marching feet, Johnny Reb, what’s the price of heroes?

Six and one half dozen the other,
Tell that to the captain’s mother,
Hey captain don’t you want to buy,
Some bone chains and toothpicks?

Night wings, her hair chains
Swan, swan, hummingbird
Hurrah, we are all free now
What noisy cats are we
Long, low time ago, people talk to me
A pistol hot cup of rhyme,
The whiskey is water, the water is wine.

So it was amazing. They not only played "Devotion" which they don't always play and I love, but Amy belted out "Romeo and Juliet" which I don't think I've EVER heard on stage. So awesome. Also "Midnight Train to Georgia" which isn't unusual at all but it always lovely. WHOO-WHOO!

Also, they played about 4 songs from the album that will be coming out in September. They sounded good. :)

Also, the opening band (Three 5 Human?) was awesome as well, and there was a lot of hot duet action.

I gave [livejournal.com profile] juliann's voicemail a call when they were playing "Kid Fears" because I had no idea what they would be playing. But then they played "The Wood Song" and eventually "Ghost." They never really play "Ghost" anymore. If I'd known, I'd have waited and called Juli then... I know she loves a little "Ghost."

I tried to take a picture with my phone but it seems that the zoom isn't working, so it's not a great picture. Poot.

p.s. I would have asked Amy Ray to come over for some babymaking, but I guess she probably wouldn't be able to help.

[livejournal.com profile] jodied was wise enough to bring her iPod recorder thinger to the Dar concert at Wellesley and has audiographic evidence of our wacky sing-along. It's awesome! So much fun! You're jealous!

I just ordered two tickets for Jen and I to go see the Indigo Girls play on Friday, July 21st at the Cape Code Melody Tent in Hyannis. I've never been there but if the weather is nice I bet it will be great! Maybe I can con Jen into an overnight in P-town or something.

Hooray! Going to see the Indigo Girls is one of those things that we do fairly often (I know, how lesbian chic) but it's been a while - definitely in Columbus. So it will be especially nice. You should all get tickets and join us!

Don't make me go outside today! Waaaaah! (Fairly light day - 1 school visit, 2 home visits, staff meeting, 1 home visit) It's freeeeeeeezing!

Jen started her new routine of getting up at 6:45am so she can make herself breakfast before work. This came from a conversation we had about when she saw the nutritionist and got some really great advice that she hadn't been able to really embrace yet. Breakfast is important, yo! My body woke me up at 6:30am because the sun was out. Damn it, I love longer days as much as the next guy but I hate sleeping farmer's hours. In Ohio, the sun came up LATER and stayed out LONGER and that worked much better for me. Aah well. I keep taking my temps earlier and earlier.

Fertility stuff: )

I'm so psyched that the Dolly Parton Transamerica song is free on iTunes right now. YAY! Dolly Parton is so cute. I love Dollywood. I was there for my first honeymoon, yo!

Have a wonderful day, friends!

I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] damdyke and in turn tag [livejournal.com profile] livinginfits, [livejournal.com profile] biophile6, [livejournal.com profile] crena, [livejournal.com profile] vorpalbla, and [livejournal.com profile] murnkay.

Wanna play?

List five songs that you are currently 'digging.' It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good. But they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your five songs. Then tag five others to see what they're listening to.

In no particular order:
1. Rihanna - Pon the Replay
2. Don Omar - Dale Don Dale
3. Groovie Ghoulies - Jet Pack
4. Catie Curtis - What's The Matter?
5. NORE et al - Oye Mi Canto
