Oh boy. I'm instantly reminded of talking to the then-about-four-year-old child in my life, and trying to explain something, and I said something about punching someone else.

It quickly became clear to me that not only did she not know the word "punch" or what it meant, in spite of having a *very* advanced vocabulary for her age (she was reading chapter books by then - she's a brilliant kid), she had no idea that one person might hit another, for any reason.

I was suprised, and pleasantly so, by the time I was her age, I knew what being beaten meant, and I had normalized it.

I don't like the idea of kids normalizing violence, though junior there is pretty darned cute. :)
