i'm just not so sure that it's that cut and dried. in all my years as a mom i've taken medications that could potentially have hurt me. some of it was for health and some wasn't. i've heard reports that he also had pneumonia which certainly could have been a factor as well. i just cringe to see these grand proclamations made with as little info is out there. (and to be clear, i am not singling you out here. i've heard/read all sorts of statements about his selfishness and whatnot since the news broke. i'm just feeling sad for him and his family more than anything.)

Yeah I saw that. I was pretty shocked. He was so young...and after seeing him in Brokeback Mountain and I'm Not There, it's hard not to see how much promise he had as an actor.

Not to mention, as the person above me said, he was a father.

It's hard because I really want to mourn the skill of his talent, the fact that he is gone, and to hold him up in acclaim of a terrible loss. Yet I also struggle with the notion that he died with pills laid out all around him, overdosed, not exactly what I'd call a shining example of society and wisdom. Why is it that people in the arts, more than most other professions, end up with such horrible addictions and problems? It seems like so much more a tragedy when someone who is a well-known actor dies young, and yet I think about others his age who die and are unlamented. What a messed up world. :S

Alright, I do agree with that. Especially when you start looking at the theoretical, or things that should make sense but devolve to chaos, even sensible and repeatable chaos. Some of that makes me want to drink heavily. ;)

I do not know people who are wickedly smart that aren't also tormented in one way, I suppose, regardless of what particular area their genius may be in. Artist, music, math, science... whatever.

Eh, maybe not.. I tried to find the article I read earlier, but all the early ones were taken down. Now they are just saying 'tony SoHo apartment'. Still, even if it's a short-lived rumor, your choice of icon is kinda amusing.

He didn't die in Mary Kate's apartment, that was an early rumor that they later debunked. The man had also been suffering from severe insomnia, and one source said he also had pneumonia (though I don't trust that source as much). It's possible that he didn't commit suicide but was just desperate to get some sleep. He was quoted as saying he got about two hours of sleep a day on average or something crazy like that.

Yeah, I read a couple of those articles where he talked about only getting a couple of hours of sleep and how his roles were really intense and freaking him out. Not getting sleep can really REALLY mess with you. I totally can relate to that. Poor guy. :(
