I wonder if my kid will ever learn to sit up on her own. She's almost seven months old. Sheesh!

I want her to sit down! I would like her to stop. trying. to. move. every. second.

Come on! Wouldn't a little sitting be nice?

Yeah, it's funny how kids do things in weird order. She has been /almost/ sitting up unsupported for about two months. It's crazy! It's like she got this >< close and then was like, "Whoops, on to other things!" She is really obsessed with learning to crawl and being mobile right now, no time for sitting!

Probably not. You might want to talk to Bumbo about making a larger size, cuz she'll need it for Circle Time in kindergarten. Not to mention spin the bottle in high school...

Ha ha ha, spin the bottle! I can totally see her dragging her Bumbo everywhere. Except that she hates the Bumbo. Or anything that attempts to pin her down or keep her in one spot. She has places to go, you know!

let me tell you a little story:

when i was a chubby little baby, i did not walk for a very long time. in fact, when i was supposed to be walking, i hadn't even crawled. then my mom got nervous and thought i was retarded and called easter seals, and the day before i was supposed to go, i got up and started walking.

so from experience, i know your baby is just being lazy and milking it.

glad to help.

She's so not lazy. She wants to move so much that she can't be bothered to be still long enough to learn to sit. She has to move ALL THE TIME.

She's nuts!

Oh I know. It's just so funny that she is practically crawling yet doesn't know how to sit. :)

She Will. She Totally Will.

Don't worry... she won't end up having to sit in a Bumbo in her college classes.

All of those early milestones, the ones that all of the new parents seem so goldarned competitive about... they become inconsequential later.

However, in the now, I'm sorry that this is bugging you. No fun.

It's not really bugging me, it's more amusing me. She can't be still long enough to learn to sit! Only my crazy kid...

ha ha, midnightsun12, my mom thought I was retarded too! I walked early but I would. not. talk. (ironic since I now far prefer talking to walking....) She called her mom (who had preschool training) and was seriously trying to get advice about what to do with her retarded child. Her mom told her to chill out and I would talk when i was good and ready. as Gus will sit up when she is...

(FYI I had a major freakout this morning because we haven't read any books to Jo so I know he is going to be retarded. do what I say...)

I wonder if anyone thought I was retarded. I know that my mom really did drop me on my head when I was an infant! (I broke my leg, right before I learned to walk. So it took me a while. Whoops.)

I know she will sit up when she's good and ready. Which will be when she wants to stop moving long enough to sit. Which could be a while - stopping moving is not really her strongest point. :)

You haven't ready any books!>??!?! What kind of moms are you!!?!??!? OH MY GOD! ;)

Your friends are cracking me up with their wit.
The baby milestones don't mean anything. She'll sit in her own good time. I do find it handy to be able to just set baby down and not have to worry AS much about how filthy the floor is, however. (dog hair sticks less to her butt than to the drool on her face). I would like V to start crawling at ohhh age 3. Then I won't have to worry about what miniature toy is on the floor within her reach. ;-)

I would like to be able to plop her on her butt with some sort of toy and not always be face down in the cat fur for sure. I think she will sit up once she learns how to climb onto a chair. She has no interest in sitting still on the floor. She is too busy getting up on all fours and rocking, screaming because as of today she can only crawl backwards.

Argh! Must babyproof!!

Um... Quinn never sat. She rolled, then crawled, then pulled up, then took off running. When we held her, she stood (and jumped) most of the time. You should have seen her beefcake thighs. Sitting is for wusses. We partially blamed the lack of sitting on noassatall (something she possibly inherited from my dad). Like her bum was so tiny and rounded, there was nothing to hold her up.

Yeah, that's so where we're at right now. Punk is on all fours and rocking, couldn't be bothered to sit. Although sometimes if I park her in front of her obnoxious Fisher Price Stage (read: lots of blinky lights and ridiculous electronic music) and sit behind her, she will sit for a while until she realizes that she hasn't moved in a minute, and then she has to go.

She has very important things to do, of course.

My kid has a butt, so I don't even have that excuse. A butt and a big, fat diaper.

Um, my kid could crawl before she could really sit up or turn from back to front (which was really nice because I could lay her on her back and she couldn't go anywhere, haha!) so I can't help you there.

Yeah, we're definitely going to be crawling before sitting here. She was on all fours rocking all day.
