Day Care

I am at home, and Punk is not here. She is at child care. SO WEIRD. I am on the bed using the computer and I keep waiting for her to wake up from her nap, because that's usually when I am on the bed using the computer (or the couch, your pick). I have a job interview this afternoon, which means it's Punk's first time doing all-day child care. And the first time Jen had to drop her off. Jen was sad. :(

I am still sick. I feel groggy and I think the runny nose is coming. Bleh. Punk had it, then Jen, now me. The curse of child care, I guess. Hopefully I don't look doped up at my interview.

I am REALLY scared I won't make nearly enough to make paying $50/day in child care even remotely worth it. If I make what I made at my last job, it will give me about $1000/month after child care. Ugh. That's hardly enough to do ANYTHING.

The plague is going through our house now, too. I think for us it's mainly allergies, but who knows? C was not feeling great over the weekend, then yesterday it started for me. Now both of us are not feeling so hot. I dropped her off this morning for a few hours and she seemed to perk up at school, which she usually does. I think she tries to play me ;)

I don't even bring home $1000 a month after daycare right now, but I figure whatever I bring home is more than we had before.

This is certainly true. It's $1000/mo that is not coming out of savings. True, true.

Do you get any sort of housing allowance from the military? That would be awesome.

We do, but honestly it just makes up for how shitty the pay is. If they didn't "pay" for housing, most military families would be well below the poverty line. They call it a benefit, but there is no way you could live without it.

Good luck on your job interview. Child care was going to take over 1/3 of my salary which is why I'm home with Emma. Sending more get well wishes your way.

Would the job also provide benefits, like retirement and insurance? Cuz that's a big plus too - we could *possibly* live on just my income, but then C would be out of the retirement loop and we'd also have to pay a lot more to have us all insured, so it's just not a realistic option right now, even though at first glance it seems attractive.

I remember the first times we had to drop the bean off - C was so sad... and actually, C was sad this morning dropping him off too - but he loves it there so much, we know we're just sad for us, not for him... but it still sucks. no doubt about that!

Hugs, and good luck at the interview, both in terms of the runny nose AND the salary equations! :)

Wierd isn't it

A couple weeks ago Morgan was at daycare and I was home sick...it was the oddest thing to be in the house by myself without her.

I bring home about $1300 after daycare...but we need every penny of it (unfortunetly). The 401K benefits are just bonus!

Want to trade? We pay $80/day and we're about to have another child.

Have we missed some secret to shopping for decent and affordable daycare?

i think bringing home $1000 after daycare sounds pretty damn good! we have two in daycare, so there is that, but more money coming in and not having to use your savings sounds like a bonus to me. and to the above poster...$80 per day seems super high! we pay $45 per day for one and then the second one gets a 10% sibling discount. so we pay less than 90 per day for two kids. we are in vt, if that makes a difference.

Yeah, it makes a difference. Metro Boston is land of uber-high child care costs.

we moved here from the bay area in ca and i thought child care was expensive there! it was about $1000 per month for one kid for full time care. is what you pay the typical price in the boston area?
