Just an FYI to any mamas or papas on my FL:

Babies R Us is issuing store credit for all baby bottles containing Bisphenol-A (BPA) - that includes Dr. Brown's, Avent, Playtex, Soothie, Breastflow, you name it - so that parents can buy new BPA-free bottles.

I'm not sure if you have to exchange for bottles right away or if you just get store credit for them, but they are giving back full price for the bottles!

I'm bringing ours back tomorrow. Whee!

All BRUs??

I was told this by mamas all over the country on a mama board, so I would check with your individual store but it seems to be a country-wide thing.

That's funny cuz I was just at BRU and asked them about it and they said absolutely not. :(

Who did you speak to? When I called our store the person who answered told me no, and I asked why some stores were doing it and others weren't and she forwarded me to "guest services." And THAT person said they WERE taking them back, that all BRUs were taking them back.

Call call call call.

Odd, I asked the people at their Guest Services desk. I'll have to.

Go get 'em! Another person asked more than one person and got confirmation. Good luck!

The store in Louisville, Kentucky said that they're only offering refunds if you have the original cash register receipt and the bottles are unopened.

That's total bunk and not at all what other stores are saying. I say make a stink. Tell them other BRUs are taking back totally used bottles and issuing credits.

very interesting. i wonder if it is a regional thing. i went online and they are still selling all the "bad" bottles and there is nothing on the website about taking all bottles with BPA back for a refund. how did you find out about this? we are done with bottles now and onto 100% sippy cups. yeah! we are trying to be better about the bpa stuff and i am happy with the changes we have made, but it is hard...and i am whiner! :P

They'll be phasing out the BPA bottles in 2009 is what my store told me. They knew nothing of a buyback. *sigh*

I found out from one of my mama boards. Mamas all over the country are telling me their stores took their bottles back.

It's funny, because I called our store and the woman who answered the phone said, "Absolutely not!" and when I asked why some stores are buying them back and others aren't, she forwarded me to someone else. And that someone else told me that ALL BRUs are taking them back as a courtesy to their customers.

ok, i just called the BRU/Toys r us near us and the first person said they would take them back, but only with a receipt. i said we did not have any receipts, that the bottles were used, and that i understood that other stores were taking them back without receipts. that woman went to get another woman, to whom i asked the same question and explained that i did not have a receipt. she said they will take all of them back, without a receipt, as long as the bottles are complete with lids, nipples, rings, etc., and that i will be given store credit! rock on!! i am gonna gather up all our bottles and take them back on friday. so psyched about this. thanks a million for passing on the news, jude!

Yes! I brought my couple of bottles back last night. (I had mostly the good bottles to begin with because I am psycho about chemicals.) I got $40! Ch-ching!

Thanks so much for this info! I called up my local BRU and they said that I could only return unopened bottles with receipt. So, I called my big, bad partner ;-) and had her call. The first thing she did was ask for the store manager, and when she came on the phone my partner said "can i have your name and correct spelling for when I go to the news" haha, she went all NY on her ass LOL So, long story made longer, we're returning our bottles tomorrow night.

Fight people! Fight!

The stores down here finally started taking them back. They're only giving credit to use for BPA free stuff, but that's better than nothing and I got a mix of sippies for N and bottles for the new baby! Whee! Thanks for getting this on my radar!
