Aah, Friendly's, how I hate thee. (Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] lorac.)

For starters, every Friendly's smells the same. AND you leave smelling like Friendly's. For a long time.

But we decided to go out to the outlets in Lee and wanted a sit-down place to feed the kid. And Friendly's was closest (aside from the food court), so Friendly's it was. Two hours of Friendly's, because the Friendly's in Lee is officially the slowest Friendly's ever. (How many times can I use Friendly's in this post?)

Punk is a sainted baby, though, because she withstood two hours in Friendly's, mainly by eating everything in sight. I actually ordered her something from the menu today for the first time (a side of broccoli). What a big girl! But she amused herself by staring at other people until they made silly faces at her, and eating broccoli, and dancing in her Ray Charles manner, and eating more broccoli. She pretty much ate the entire side of broccoli, plus some of Jen's chicken noodle soup, plus a cracker, plus some of the ground beef and sweet potatoes and pears I'd brought from home, plus a few pieces of freeze-dried fruit. She is a horse.

She also had an entire bag of freeze-dried fruit before we left. And had an 8oz bottle a little while after lunch. And had a container of yogurt and a little more freeze-dried fruit as a snack after her little Ergo nap. And then, at a Wendy's on the way home because it was far too late, ate a 6oz jar of stage 3 dinner, at least two chicken nuggets, and some of a baked potato. DOES SHE HAVE A HOLLOW LEG?

She really was the awesomest baby ever today, though. It's amazing how much easier it is to take her places and not be chained to the house and the nap routine or whatever. It's like a whole different kid. No puking, no random fits of crying for hours, no needing to take a 30 minute nap every 90 minutes, and she can sit in a high chair. A-maz-ing.

Also, she is cute. So I bought her a bunch of crap she doesn't need from the Gymboree outlet. And we got a kiddie pool. RAWK.

Tomorrow she will be 11 months old.

aww that sounds super friggin' cute! :) i dread to think of what the adult sized poop is gonna smell like when it comes out of her diaper after all that food, though!

Ha! She poops 2-3 times a day so it's not like one humongous turd is going to come out! ;)

I am so glad things have gotten easier with her :) Yay!!!

And I know what you mean about how much they eat...I am astounded at the intake - where do they put it?

She's not a chubby baby, either! It's crazy. Then again, if I did something like eat a bowl of broccoli for lunch, maybe I wouldn't look the way I do! ;) ;) ;)

Haha - I think you are onto something!

Yeah, my kiddos put away the food like no tomorrow and they are 50/75th percentile...so pretty average.

Yeah, Punk is in the 90s for height but she's in the low 70s for weight, so she's fairly average herself. All of a sudden, though, she's started really pounding the food. I think it's the reflux easing off. We're FINALLY off the reflux meds. I never thought that would happen.

That is great. Izzy got off of hers at around 6 months, but hers was quite mild compared to what you were dealing with.

It was seriously awful. In hindsight I can actually see how much more awful it was than I would let myself think. I am SO glad to have that crap behind me.

I'm glad you have it behind you, too.

She's gonna be the person that every fat person hates because she can pack it away and not gain an ounce, but somebody like me looks at a chocolate cake and gains three pounds. :-)

Morella needs a little bit of that hollow leg action. Ugh. I have a hard time feeding her anything, including her bottle.

It's recent. When she was younger it was SO HARD for me to get stuff into her. I think it was the reflux and everything, like she was really cautious about eating. I remember reading about babies Punk's age who were having 6-8oz bottles and Punk was still having 4oz, MAYBE 5. And then when the reflux started getting better I was able to move her up to 6oz. And when she'd had solids for a while, we actually made it to 8oz. I never would have believed it. We gave her 8 4oz bottles for the longest time.

When Morella starts growing out of her reflux/aspiration, I bet you will see her eating more. She actually, since she prefers the thick goop, might be REALLY into solids and just go crazy with them.

Hugs. Having a hard time feeding your kid is SO stressful. Hang in there!!

I am kind of scared to have another baby! I mean, there's no guarantee that we will have another high-needs, colicky, major reflux baby... but there's no guarantee we won't, either.

Oh my gosh, if she gets any taller I am going to flip out!! We had to skip the 12 month size because she totally bypassed it. She wore her 12 month spring/summer clothes for one week when we were in Florida in April, and now that it is warm enough to wear them here, they are all too short! Argh!!

Yeah, though, I think she is spurting. She is seriously putting away the food right now. I never really had to give her in-between meal snacks because she would have an 8oz bottle in between meals, but now it's: morning bottle, breakfast, nap bottle, morning snack, lunch, afternoon nap bottle, snack, dinner, bedtime bottle. We are going broke!

When I was a kid, we called Friendly's "Turtle Diner" because it was so ridiculously slow.

It's weird because while Friendly's isn't the speediest place in the world, it's not usually THIS bad. I mean, hello, they have like five items on the menu - what's the hold up? Make the Super Melts and get on with it!! ;)

This was a teeny tiny Friendly's, too. Maybe only one person was working or something. It was awful - I think we were there for two hours! We got there at Punk's lunch time and by the time we left, it was nap time. Argh!!

But Friendly's is the only place to get a fried clam strip platter in Columbus! And I couldn't claim to be a New Englander if I didn't go for those fried clam strips! ;)

I love fried clam strips, but man, you gotta do better than Friendly's. Come here and I'll take you to Quincy and we can have clam strips on the shore.

Oh, there was a great place on the Cape, Thompson's Clam Bar in Harwichport, that we used to go to every summer when we were vacationing there. It's gone now, sadly. But they had the best fresh seafood.

Alas, being landlocked here, I have to take my clam strips where I can get them. That means Friendly's, since we don't have any HoJo's around.

Vivi's still in 12 mo clothes because she's not particularly tall, and she's a chunky butt. I do have 18 mo clothes for summer but they're a bit big on her. And surprisingly enough, she's not a big eater. She nurses all night long and a few times during the day, but isn't terribly interested in breakfast, eats a little bit off her tray at lunch, and a little bit at dinner (unless it's mac n cheese, and then she's chowing it down)

Tonight for dinner, my kid ate an entire slice of pork tenderloin, half of a potato, and a ton of broccoli. And a little arrowroot square for dessert. It's insane. She ate about 1/3 of what I ate! And then drank an 8oz bottle.

INSANE.

Damn, your kid is a goat! I hope she doesn't eat Z at the Playdate to End All Playdates (which we shoudl plan, btw!)
If Z eats a whole muffin, I'm all psyched. 3 bites of chicken & applesauce is exciting around here.

I'm glad Punk is chowing down, though. Reflux bites. (and we never got Shaya to drink more than 2-3 oz at a time...) Solids went down easier, though.

Our Friendly's is also totally ridiculously slow. There are always pissed off people there and the poor waitstaff are always getting yelled at. And yet, we still eat there occasionally.
