Man, my kid picked up quite the haul today. We went to the nearby BRExpensive because I wanted to pick up a few things that we newly need for Ms. Toddler Testypants: 1) a plastic mat for under the high chair (due to a sudden fascination with looking at you, throwing the food over the side, and watching it fall), 2) a plastic guard for the TV buttons (since 'no' for the 989809898329181098th time is getting old) and 3) a second gate for the other part of the living room, since baby Jackson taught Punk how to push the exersaucer aside to get past it (DAMN YOU, JACK!). I was armed with 15% off BRU coupons, a 15% off gate coupon, a $3 off coupon for Geoffrey's Birthday Club, etc.

We did indeed get all of those things. And a 3-in-1 bathside seat that doubles as a storage box for washcloths and soap and stuff and becomes a step stool, a bath faucet cover and little thing to put tub toys in, some Mustela diaper cream for ultra-sensitive skin (like Punk's), a pack of Pampers Baby Dry diapers because we tried to do the 'right' thing and switch to Seventh Gen for the night diaper and they LEAK (argh), yet another brand of sippy cups because our child care provider said Punk was drinking milk out of one at her house (probably full of BPA, but I am desperate), a Foogo stainless steel straw cup, and heaven knows what else. And THEN decided to finally try (on suggestion of Punk's PT) a pair of high-top shoes since the high tone in her legs/feet causes her to do a ton of toe-standing/cruising. So we went to the local Stride Rite dealer and blew a mint on some walking shoes that she will grow out of in 3 months or so. ;) However, we tried cheaper shoes first, and even trendier sneakers from a kid's sneaker store, and she wouldn't stand in any of those shoes because they were too stiff and heavy. These Stride Rite stage 2s fit her really well and she immediately went and started cruising in them (with flat feet, yay!) so I dropped the $45.

They're cute, at least. And she didn't immediately scream and try to pull them off. So that's good. I shall have to take a picture. They have cute little flowers on them. My little girly girl.

It's amazing how much money you can blow there. We spent a ton in child proofing stuff and the kid can still find random things to do-- or like this morning where I left the gate open and she got 1/2 way down the stairs before Shane caught up to her.

I need to take her to Stride Rite. She needs to wear shoes at her new school (which she starts in 1 week) and we haven't been able to keep anything on her feet. We started with some Robeez and they do ok, but she needs a little better for down the road.

I will tell you this: Punk is a MAJOR shoe and sock hater and so far she has been totally chill with the Stride Rite Stage 2s. They are not hard like the walking shoes from when I was a kid, they are very soft and flexible and light-weight (not as light-weight as Robeez but much lighter than regular sneakers). Usually the second I put her in the car seat in shoes or socks she tries to get them off and SCREAMS if she can't. She was happily wearing her new shoes all the way home today.

The biggest thing is that she immediately went over to a chair and pulled up. When we were in the kids' sneaker store and tried on some Adidas sneakers (SO CUTE!!), she refused to stand in them no matter how I tried.

Man, I sound like a commercial. ;) But I am excited that she will wear a pair of shoes so she can use her walker wagon outside!

That's awesome, we'll definitely have to check them out. The back seats of our cars are littered with C's socks that she pulls off. Sometimes we don't even make it to the car with them on. I just stopped even trying because it was a moot point and a waste of time and money.

We have a lot of socks in the back seat, too. :)

The price of decent baby shoes is pretty scary, isn't it? I sort of blanch at the thought of how much it's going to cost to keep Duncan shod for the next several years.

Really scary. We have some cheaper shoes but they just don't seem as good. And she hates them.
