judecorp: (i have a question)

I'm thinking about taking out my facial piercings (vertical labret, tongue, eyebrow). I have had them for a really long time. Really long. I've had my tongue pierced for over 12 years now. I've had an eyebrow ring on and off for 10 years. I got the labret in 2002. Long time. Long time.

Thoughts?

If it's because you think you're getting too old for them, then bullcrap to that.

If you're just bored with them, go for it.

I tend to forget I even have my facial piercings most times. But when I do notice them, I always go through bouts of debate on their removal.

While I think they look really great on you, if you're not sure about them anymore, take them out. Leave 'em out for a bit and see if you miss them. Everyone closes up at a different pace, but you'd have a bit of time to look and decide. My tongue stayed open for two years after I pulled it out. Heh. And keep in mind that it's always easy to get them re-pierced if you decide you miss them too much.

But in the meantime, grabby hands from the little one won't have shiny metal bits to grab onto.

I haven't even been able to wear necklaces and earrings since Ben loves them so much, so I know I would have removed facial piercings if I had any. Just seems easier and more practical.

Taking out my nose and septum piercings were the right move for me, but when I see pictures of me with them in, I get pangs of loss ...

and then I think: pffffft it's just a piece of metal. Do what you wanna, you can always repierce.

Another one chiming in...

I took my nose pierce out two years ago (for a surgery) and haven't really missed it. I know lots of people say they don't affect nose blowing, but for me, button-nosed as I am, it got in the way.

I'm a little nostalgic when I see it in pictures, but that's all.

If it's time for you, it's time. We'll all still think you're cool!

I'm not a facial piercing person myself, but on many people they look great. If you're feeling uncomfortable, go for it. I suppose there is always an option to re-pierce if you change your mind?

But, seriously, I second everyone else. You'll know when you should take them out. :) FWIW, I don't miss any of mine.

The best part about you posting that is when I saw it, I said to Jason "Doesn't that look a tiny bit like Deanna?"

I keep feeling like I'm too old for mine, but then I think Brewer is just seeping too much into my pores. I took mine out when I first started my job and I had this slightly panicky feeling all day long like I'd forgotten to put on pants before I left the house. I think I spend too much time fidgeting with my lip ring to ever let it go. I'd say take them out and see how much you miss them. If you miss any of them, put it back. Thankfully in this day and age when we start to reach our *gulp* mid-thirties we aren't condemned to sensible haircuts and bad clothes like they were in decades past.

I think your piercings look good... but if you're ready, go for it. I took my tongue piercing out several years back. I was just tired of it and didn't want it anymore. I don't miss it. My nose however, I'd love to do again, but haven't because of work. That one I miss, but, if there comes a moment when I want it badly enough, I'll do it and to heck with work! :)

i'm having a similar debate

i'm looking for a "real job" right now, and the ones in the fields i am looking into typically aren't very accepting to facial piercings in the work place.

i think the important thing, if no one hasn't state it above, is thinking about why you think it's time. no one should judge if you do, or if you decide to add some more. reasons why i would guess that you might choose to would be:
-job/occupational hazard
-motherhood, and what a pierced mom may/may not socially present
-queer identity in connection with certain piercings
-the way you are treated by those who do not know you

that's my two cents at the moment. i will post more if i can think of any, but quite frankly, if you're just tired of them, what's the problem in just taking one or two out? it also isn't just all or nothing too....

Like a couple of other people have said, I took my septum ring out about 3 years ago, and while I don't regret that decision, when I see it in pictures, I'm like "Aw, it was cute."

But particularly since I would have to hide it for my job now, it would definitely be more hassle than it's worth to keep it around.

I took my tongue stud out after well over a decade of having it in - but i rarely miss it. It was just time, you know?

the only thing I would say, in terms of my loving opinion...is the professional aspect. i know that it is more socially acceptable to have piercings etc....it would be really hard to advance in your career to a higher position with piercings on the face.

other than that, i like 'em. but that's how i have known you.....for 6 years!!!!!!!!

Taking out my piercings made me feel OLD! I'm just saying. Hey- we are moving to Burlington at the end of August which is only a short three hour drive from you. Want to be our friend? -Melissa; Rebecca; Avery; Frances; and Elliot

I've had my tongue pierced for over 14 years and there's no way I'm taking it out. I love it, but I guess if I was sick of it I'd take it out.
