I have returned from the second social get-together thinger for the Grad Queers, the cross-campus group for queer graduate students that I was required to organize for work. Lots of the different departments have their own groups, but we're now trying to consolidate. It seems to be working well.

We went to Aladdin's, and I'd never been there before. The food was pretty darned good, the dessert was /excellent/, and it was pretty cheap. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and people were exchanging email addresses and phone numbers, which, in my opinion, is the point of the thing (so people can network in their own ways). Aladdin's was good about accomodating a group of 13 on a Saturday night, kudos to them. Of course, I think the fact that it was Holiday Hop night and the AIDS vigil helped clear some of the people, but they were pretty busy anyway.

Either way, I'd say it was a success. I've gathered a pretty good list of names and those people have brought other people and it's become a pretty big group considering it's only been around for a month. People are getting along and they all seem very nice. Yay! Coworker Hope and Megan went, so I instantly knew people, but the other people I met were cool, too.

And the dessert was very good. Did I mention that? I took half of it home - huge slice of cake. Mmm. I want to go back, now. Maybe I will take Baga there when he comes up on Thursday night.

Which reminds me, my paper hasn't written itself while I was out, and we stayed at dinner talking longer than I'd expected, so I should get back to that. Blah.

It was this multiple-layer cake with 2 layers of white cake, 2 or 3 layers of chocolate mousse, 1 layer of custard. The whole thing was coated in chocolate with a little dollop of whipped cream and a Hershey's kiss. MMM.

But I gave the rest (I brought half home) to Aaron. Sorry.

Aladdin's, as in "The Natural Eatery" - very vegetarian friendly?

I'm just curious, because I wonder if it's a chain or not. I thought the only one was in Rochester, then realized there was one in Ithaca also. And I know they have excellent pastries.

Well, I haven't seen a slogan that says it's "The Natural Eatery," but it /was/ very vegetarian-friendly. So I honestly have no idea. Either way, we can pretend it is. Or isn't. :)

It was good, though. Mmmm!

Yummy. They have kickass salads at that place, and the new location in Grandview is so very convenient. =)
