Punk has been congested the last couple of nights. No runny nose, no sneezing, just congestion. Which makes for crappy sleep for her. Which makes for crappy sleep for me. And she didn't want to eat breakfast this morning and then didn't eat lunch at day care and I was super worried because umm, she ALWAYS eats. And she started out refusing dinner but then ate about a million dino nuggets so I guess we're good.

Now I have a cold, and I'm getting about 3 hours of sleep a night, which does not bode well for the cold. Oh well. Happy birthday to me tomorrow, hopefully I won't feel like a train hit me like I did today.

I left work early because I felt like crap and because staff meeting was doing chart reviews and all of my charts are done. I laid down for a while and that actually helped a bit. Yay.

There was a miscommunication at work today and I got not one but TWO fancy bakery birthday cakes. It was very sweet (pun intended) and I took the one that didn't get touched home. It's a huge chocolate cake from La Fiorentina (fancy bakery of deliciousness) and I will probably gain 50 pounds. NOM.

I never get a flu shot but I am debating it this year because I get so little sleep that I'm worried I'm going to pick up every little thing. Thoughts?

i don't see the point of the flu shot, in general. i understand it for those for whom it would be really dangerous, sure. but i've never actually gotten The Flu (at least not since I was a kid, maybe), and since the shot only covers the most common 'flus de jour...i just don't see the point.

that said, last year we got it because our doc convinced us that it would be useful for Zach, but he can't get it because of his egg allergy, so *we* should get it so we don't bring the flu home to him. we got it and, damn, did my arm hurt for OVER a week. Unfortunately, a lot of my fieldwork placements are going to require the flu shot, which sucks, so i'm going to have to deal with an owie arm this year or next, or both.

oh, and mmmmmm....caaaake....

What about the other type of flu vax? Isn't there one that goes through the nose or something that adults can get instead?

i've never heard of that, but I'm never spraying anything up my nose. the OTC medicines that are in nasal spray form have the not-so-uncommon side effect of completely destroying your smell receptors in the nose (or something like that, wherein people end up with practically no sense of smell). So I'm reticent of nasal spray meds.

Hope you feel better and have a great day tomorrow! I vote for getting the flu shot since you work around so many kids. I never got it until the year after I had it and it put me on my ass for about 5 days.

I never get one either, but this year I am thinking I might because of peer pressure...and I don't want Morella to get the flu

i have no thoughts about the flu shot, but i wanted to chime in and say there are few things worse than a congested baby. the tragedy is deep and far reaching. sorry, girl.

Mmmm cake.

Happy birthday.

I've been considering the flu shot too. I never have. But I work with a bunch of germy teenagers and have a wee baby... so...

I got a flu shot last year while I was pg. I wasn't sure if I wanted to or not, but given my asthma, I decided the risks if I were pg and got the flu were greater than the risks of the vax.

Given your line of work, it might be worth you getting it, unless you're very opposed to it. But obviously, up to you.

Sorry you all aren't feeling so hot. Get well soon!

I get flu shots every year, and I'm pretty much never sick. (But maybe that's due to the antibodies I built up from 9 years of teaching)!

Love ya! Happy _real_ birthday!
