Halloween in the boonies.

I wanted to take Punk down to one of the other towns in the area (Longmeadow) because I'd heard that there's a street that goes Halloween Crazy and I wanted to check it out. But I had also bought a bunch of candy and really wanted to hand out candy. Oh, the dilemma!
In the end, I left a big bowl of candy on our front steps next to our jack-o'-bamas with a sign that said, "Happy Halloween! Please help yourselves!" and left our front light on.
We came back at 8pm and the pumpkins were untouched and most of the candy was gone.
And this is why I love living in the boonies. :)

Before 8 in their neighborhood is mostly younger kids and well-supervised groups. (They haven't had problems with pumpkins in several years after Mom worked at the high school and the kids knew she knew them, but when I was in middle school we had a couple incidents where our pumpkins got kicked in on our doorstep.)

His wife was out for the evening so it was dad's night. I think all of the neighbors got up and ran after him at one point. It was safe so it was fun.
We also had one neighbor that wanted to go out with her grandson so instead of staying home, she walked around with a bowl of candy and handed it out as she walked around.
We gave out playdough and candy. The kids were more excited about the playdough. I think next year we're not going to get candy at all. We also don't have a lot of older kids so we were done by 8:30. We kept the lights on for a bit after that but nobody rang the bell.
