Potty training stuff

Punk will be 22 months old on Friday (where did the time go?) and she is really stepping up her interest in the potty. She has gone potty successfully several times. I am wicked impressed because aside from bringing a potty up from the basement, I didn't really do anything.
About two weeks ago maybe, as we were getting ready for bed one night, she said, "Poop in the potty." She has never asked to do anything on the potty before and didn't even particularly want to sit on the potty, so I assumed she was just stalling bedtime. But I believe that if a kid asks to go to the potty, you need to take her. So I did. And she sat there, and sat there, and then did a gigantic turd on the potty! I was shocked!
She has pooped on the potty about 6 times now, maybe a few more. She will typically poop on the potty every day as long as you bring it up. But last night and today she has asked to pee-pee in the potty, too. And she has peed both times!
She is still peeing in the diaper and she also pooped in the diaper this morning (which was surprising, she usually asks to poop on the potty at home), but I am not sweating it because like I said, I'm not really running this show. It's nice not to clean poop diapers, though.
Those of you with older kids, about how long did it take to go from occasionally being interested in doing something in the potty, and doing the underwear/training pants thing? Curious.

Date: 2009-04-30 04:40 pm (UTC)I, too, believe that there really isn't any benefit to forcing the issue. I don't even really believe in rewarding poops on the potty because the poop on the potty IS the reward. The fact that you didn't have to sit around in your own poo is reward enough, I think. We don't do sticker charts, or M&Ms, or "here, pee on these Cheerios" (I have all boys, k? :-P), or any of that. Leif has shown an interest WAY earlier than Aidan did, and earlier than Joseph as well. Aidan was a late trainer, Joseph was trained at about 3 or something.
So yeah. Yay Punk! Good job with your pooping! I'd say go ahead and buy the underroos.
