Yuck. I had a day like that last week. I think my productivity is not going to recover from all the no-shows until January.

Because if they both showed, there would be ANGRY people in the waiting room, and I would look foolish and incompetent, and well.. that would be bad.

Well you wouldn't say you'd double booked, you'd say you were running late, and pick a person and say they were first. I get the feeling my doctors do that. Or stagger your double booking by half the amount of the appointment time. So if normally you'd book one at 12 and one at 1, book the second for 12:30.

And obviously don't double book people who do show up for appointments- double book the ones that don't.

It's just never the same people who don't show up! (If people don't show up a couple of times, I discharge them quick.) It's so hit or miss. This week it seems like everyone is sick. Next week everyone will have holiday-itis. It's just a mess.

The problem with double booking would be if everyone came. Then it would be like a doctor's office. And I /hate/ when it happens at the doctor's office!!

Well if your job didn't care so much about how many people actually keep their appointments (as if that's in your power) then I'd say don't double book. But because you're under so much pressure, I still say stagger the double booking.

Grrrr. How the hell can they expect you to meet their standards with that sort of non-attendance?

Awesome! We unfortunately got very little use out of them last year because Punk was still a very unsteady walker and couldn't really figure out the boots-and-snow thing. :)

I am hugely sympathetic. My attendance rate for students who book appointments is about 20%, so I double book them without being obvious by booking them at about 15 minute intervals when I know I usually spend about a half hour (sometimes more, but rarely less) with each student.
