I love the increase in daylight but I don't love that my body has been waking me up at 5:30 every morning. It is just not right. Still, it is nice to wake up on my own instead of the alarm clock (or the mini alarm clock on legs) doing that for me. But yeah, I'd love to sleep until 7, okay? Yawn. Punk also tried to wake up at 5:40, but I went and snuggled her in her bed until she fell back asleep and then left. Good times.

My brother is in town and Punk is having a grand old time bossing him around, I mean, playing with him. She is so full of funny things and he is amused, which amuses me. She is like a mini Chamber of Commerce. We went out to breakfast yesterday morning and she asked him, "Uncle Rick, what are you going to have at the Silver Spoon Diner?" Also last night she was talking about some sort of food item and when he asked where she would get it, she matter-of-factly answered, "Trader Joe's." *snort*

She is becoming rather hip to advertising, which is annoying. She doesn't watch any TV with commercials here but I guess sometimes they watch regular Nick at day care (which has commercials). For two weeks she has been asking for a specific thing for her birthday, something she saw on a commercial. She tells me, "It is good for Punkins." When I tell her that she probably won't get it, she starts whining. *sigh* (It is a Little Tikes ride-on fire engine that "really sprays water.")

We bought her a swing set for her birthday. Because we never know if we're going to stay in this house (we really want to move to another town but also like this house), we didn't want to get a big wooden thing that we might not be able to move and we didn't want to leave something that expensive behind, so we bought a metal old-school style swing set that we will put together this morning. We actually started last night but had some technical difficulties. Whoops. I know she will have a ton of fun with it when it is up, and it is perfect for toddlers/preschoolers because it is a smaller size. (Not to mention way cheaper.)

I really want to go out to breakfast again. Dang, I love going out to breakfast.

i'm coveting a swing set too but our yard isn't huge, and ang is resistant to add something she'll have to mow around. i'm going to keep working on her.

These cheapy metal ones are pretty sweet in that regard because you can mow under all of the swings. You can get one (a small toddler one) for something like $120, which compared to the wooden dealies is a steal.

i keep looking on craigslist.

i know someone that keeps offering us her HUGE wooden swing seat for FREEEEEEEEE but it would take up the majority of our yard. our lot is only .15 acres and the house is pretty much smack in the middle of it. big enough yard to play in and enjoy, but not big enough for a huge swing set.

My friend is dealing with the tv at daycare thing too. Her daughter never saw tv until she started going to daycare (I don't think they watch a lot but still) and now she recognizes cartoon characters :(

I will say that before Punk ever watched TV, she learned a lot of the characters from other kids' clothes and shoes, diapers, etc. But yeah, it's rough when your kid is doing something you tried to avoid. Unfortunately, you can't avoid it forever! (I don't have any problem with kids watching tv. I just hate advertising to my kid!)

tell me why we should not be looking in your town - i'd bet money it has to do with schools, which is disappointing because the next town over is infinitely better in that dept, or so i've heard.....

Personally, I love our town. LOVE. The houses are cute and comparable, the taxes are way lower, crime is pretty much nil, and there tends to be more land/lot here.

The schools are... not bad. They are not great, although there has been progress. The town just overwhelmingly passed a tax override to build a brand new (sweet) high school opening in 2013. One of the elementary schools is a "needs improvement" school and the other is not, it's okay. BUT, dang, 4 miles away is one of the two best school systems in the whole valley, and that's hard to pass up since we're not exactly the type of folks who can afford private school.

A friend just gave us a load of books and there were a couple Veggie Tales books in there that Hootie isn't going to be ready for in a while.
