With my father in the hospital and unable to work at the family business, I can't imagine I can take days to leave the state on my short visit.

I hope you have a good time. It will be a lot of fun. I'd like to think I'll be able to swing something, but it's really not realistic. I'll be home for 2 weeks, and my father almost died. There's no way, even if we all didn't have to get together to try to run his business, that I could take time away from that to go to a party. I would just look so heartless and selfish and inconsiderate.

At least we're close enough that we can come and visit YOU while you're home. We won't even make you drive up to Boston.
