Help me get away from myself.
Jan. 26th, 2002 04:05 pmI'm having a hard time being motivated to do anything even remotely productive. I should be doing lots and lots of things, especially since I have to go supervise the Michelle Malone concert for work tonight, and I have to be out the door around 6:45 or 7 for that. I haven't even showered.
Of course, there's a reason I haven't showered, and that reason is that our apartment is currently not heating up. The thermostat isn't working, feh. You can set the temperature to whatever and it turns the heat on for a minute and then shuts it off. I have turned it from 'automatic' to 'on' in the hopes that it will blow out enough lukewarm air while the dishwasher is on (the heater is on to heat the water, so I'm hoping it will work a little) that I can take a shower without freezing my little booty off.
(Then again, another reason is that I'm terribly lazy.)
Last night I went to a potluck at the boss's house. Brett and Michelle have a really nice place - I have envy! Some people that I work with were there (Coworker Hope, Coworker Velma, Coworker Willa, Brett, and Tamara), and some people that I know (Megan, Patience, Erica, Michelle, Roland, and Oona). There were people that I didn't know, that I think were friends of Brett's and Michelle's but were also very nice. And Denise Uyehara was there, but I didn't talk to her at all. All in all, I had a good time, but I was so exhausted from the week that I couldn't wait to get home. I wasn't the first person out (Velma was), but I took a bunch of people out with me.
Since I woke up, I have done the following:
1. Called my father to say hello.
2. Thwarted questions about A. and 'how things are going.'
3. Read about 50 pages of The GirlTM's novel.
4. Wrote some letters.
5. Put another blanket on the bed.
6. Gave love to kitties.
7. Paid bills and balanced checkbook.
8. Whined about mess in kitchen.
9. Did dishes.
10. Talked to Jodie-O.
11. Whined about how unmotivated I am.
12. Contemplated homework.
13. Whined some more.
I am feeling rather lonely today. Weekends are like that, I think, because I'm so go-go-go all week long that I don't notice until I slow down. Hopefully tonight will be fun. Hopefully lots of people will come and it will be a success and work will bring in a bunch of money. Hopefully Coworker Hope and I really /can/ still be friends.
Is it February yet?

Date: 2002-01-27 12:54 pm (UTC)That's weird ! My heat has been doing the same thing. For like a month or so. I called up my
slumlandlord, and they claimed to send a maintenance guy over... said guy perhaps came, or anyway some Furniture Fairy had shoved my fridge around a bit. But the heat has still been doing just as before : on and off, and not just turning right off as it used to, but slowing down like a motor giving up, then eventually halting. It does seem to be heating the apartment... but it can't be doing it very efficiently.
I'm glad I put plastic on the windows. That too has been helping.
Heating woes
Date: 2002-01-27 01:28 pm (UTC)My door needs to be weatherstripped again. But since the door doesn't fit right (hence the need for the weatherstripping), the weatherstripping doesn't stay on, rubs in all funny places, twists around, ugh.
Yeah.

Date: 2002-01-27 02:52 pm (UTC)They also were "happy" to raise my rent $15 when I renewed my lease. Because I've been such a good customer. (If I'm that good, maybe you could do me an actual favor and keep the rent the same ?)
(It's not like they do all that much maintenance on the place. The tomato soup puke on the front steps, for example, has been there for a week or 2 un-mopped. (Ew.))
Moral : if you want to get rich with minimal work, buy and rent property.

On an unrelated note, we should get together again sometime before I move away.
