Yeah I guess if you'd had it that long it was definitely time for a change! I am on about three year cycles of long/short myself. Long in 1990-1, short, long 1993-4, short, long 1998-9, short, now growing it out again. Of course the extra-time "short" phase of 1995-98 had at least 10 different haircolours :)
I can't stand having "static" hair. Already I am going nuts, been wanting to dye for months now but just saving up for the spensive salon treatment which I will have to get for the next phase. *whine* Although I found out it's only 70, which is not TOO bad considering that it's cut and dye both. I haven't had it trimmed or anything in well over 6 months. (t shaving the back off not counting!)
But I am determined to have purple hair before March! (Well 3/4 of my remaining hair will be purple, with natural over the top so no root/touch up issues, yaay)
Well, I had some variations, I suppose. My hair was long in 1999, for the wedding. And it was long in 1993 when I went to college. And it was longish in 1997 when I went to camp, because I wanted "pull into a ponytail" hair.
But for the most part it always vascillated between ears and shoulders, always was parted on the left side (I have a natural cowlick), and was always dark and thick. (My hair doesn't change color without bleach, and it's so dark that it usually bleaches orange, not whitish.) I had blonde/orange streaks once. In high school, I was green for a little while.
Somewhere in there, I think in 9th grade or 10th, I had a perm. Whee! Curly bob.
Variations on the bob. Love the bob. But I'm loving now, too. Dude, people are ALL OVER ME these days!

I have not yet seen hair that I can't get to yellow. Banana yellow instead of blonde perhaps, but still yellow. 40 vol peroxide and a hair dryer will bleach even asian hair.
Mine will go with your standard l'Oreal superblonde kit and an hour "cooking".
Can't wait to do it again! It was rebleaching the roots that I hate hate but my local salon is not THAT expensive (like 10 more than doing it yourself) and I've decided that after three years it's worth it! (esp as with my plan I'll only have to do it every 6 months not every 6 weeks)
Wow. 40 vol peroxide scares the crap out of me. Eeek!
I don't like rebleaching roots either... when my roots got too bad, I went back to normal. Feh. I am so not into taking all that time to "look good." Hee.
