Answer these using the lyrics of just ONE band:
Band: Simon & Garfunkel
1. Are you male or female?
Sail on silver girl, sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
2. Describe yourself:
When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station
Running scared
~//~
When you're weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
When times get rough
~//~
And he died so his brothers could be free
He died so his brothers could be free
3. How do they (THEY? WHO IS THEY?) feel about you?
They call me Baby Driver
And once upon a pair of wheels
Hit the road and I'm gone
4. How do you feel about yourself?
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me
5. Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend?
I can hear the soft breathing of the girl that I love
As she lies here beside me asleep with the night
And her hair in a fine mist floats on my pillow
Reflecting the glow of the winter moonlight
She is soft, she is warm, but my heart remains heavy
And I watch as her breasts gently rise, gently fall
For I know with the first light of dawn I'll be leaving
And tonight will be all I have left to recall
6. What would you rather be doing?
Homeward Bound, I wish I was Homeward Bound
Home, where my thought's escaping
Home, where my music's playing
Home, where my love lies waiting
Silently for me
~//~
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
7. Describe where you live:
The story's in the past with nothing to recall
I've got my life to live, and I don't need you at all
The roller coaster ride we took is nearly at an end
I bought my tickets with my tears, that's all I'm gonna spend
8. Describe how you love:
Here is my song for the asking
Ask me and I will play
So sweetly, I'll make you smile
This is my tune for the taking
Take it, don't turn away
I've been waiting all my life
Thinking it over, I've been sad
Thinking it over, I'd be more than glad
To change my ways for the asking
Ask me and I will play
All the love that I hold inside
9. Share a few words of wisdom:
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls"
~//~
Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war
I dreamed I saw a mighty room
The room was filled with men
And the paper they were signing said
They'd never fight again
And when the papers all were signed
And a million copies made
They all joined hands and bowed their heads
And grateful prayers were prayed
And the people in the streets below
Were dancing round and round
And guns and swords and uniforms
Were scattered on the ground
Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war

Dear Jude: Thank you for distracting me from my job. Shani.
Date: 2002-04-18 12:18 pm (UTC)1. Are you male or female?
If you could see me now
The one who said that she'd rather roam
The one who said she'd rather be alone
2. Describe yourself:
Who doesn't know what I'm talking about
Who's never left home who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone
Many precede and many will follow
A young girl's dream no longer hollow
It takes the shape of a place out West
But what it holds for her, she hasn't yet guessed
3. How do they feel about you? (I'm interpreting this as, my parents)
As her folks drive away her dad yells, "Check the oil!"
Mom stares out the window and says "I'm leaving my girl."
She says, "It didn't seem like that long ago
When she stood there and let her own folks know."
4. How do you feel about yourself?
Well the weeks went by
and Spring turned to Summer
And Summer faded into Fall
And it turns out he was a missing person who nobody missed at all
//
Now my sense of humor needs a break
I see a shadow in the mirror
And she's laughin' through her tears
One more smile's all I can fake
5. Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend?
There's your trouble, there's your trouble
You keep seeing double with the wrong one
You can't see I love you
You can't see she doesn't
But you just keep holding on
There's your trouble
(ok, so that's a year or so outdated, but anyway. I identified this song so much with him)
6. What would you rather be doing?
Ready ready ready ready...ready to run
All I'm ready to do is have some fun
//
I wanna be the only one
For miles and miles
Except for maybe you
And your simple smile
Oh it sounds good to me
Yeah it sounds so good to me
7. Describe where you live:
It looks like spring and
It feels like sunny weather
But it's a cold day in July
8. Describe how you love:
Sometimes I wake up crying at night
And sometimes I scream out your name
//
I couldn't get any higher
This time I'm willing to dance on the wire
If I fall...If I fall
'Cause if I fall you're going down with me
9. Share a few words of wisdom:
I've sure enjoyed the rain
But I'm looking forward to the sun
You have to feel the pain
When you lose the love you gave someone
//
Well it wasn't two weeks after she got married that
Wanda started getting abused
She put on dark glasses and long sleeved blouses
And make-up to cover a bruise
Well she finally got the nerve to file for divorce
She let the law take it from there
But Earl walked right through that restraining order
And put her in intensive care
Right away Mary Anne flew in from Atlanta
On a red eye midnight flight
She held Wanda's hand as they worked out a plan
And it didn't take 'em long to decide
That Earl had to die
Goodbye Earl
Ooooh. What a challenge!

Date: 2002-04-19 09:21 pm (UTC)Eeek- the sound I make when very happy to see Paul lyrics. Especially applied in such a way. And a fun new thing to do.
Plus, you made excellent use of Paul/Art lyrics.
Good job, grasshopper.
I did it in history today with Bob Dylan. It beats watching documentaries. I want to do it with Dar Williams, Ani, Joan, and Tori Amos, among others...
I miss you, we haven't talked/commented in awhile. And my friends page hasn't been working lately. So, hey.
I miss you too, kiddo.
Date: 2002-04-19 10:10 pm (UTC)I'm glad you approve. I kind of thought you might. :) You have an excellent appreciation of Paul. Love Paul. LOVE PAUL!
I don't talk to anyone anymore. I am too effing busy for my own good. But I read everything that you do - hee - it makes me feel young.
Re: I miss you too, kiddo.

Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.
*smile*
Date: 2002-04-20 06:20 pm (UTC)10. Words of wisdom for Jode:
Old friends, old friends,
Sat on their parkbench like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
of the high shoes of the old friends
Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settle like dust on the shoulders of the old friends.
Can you imagine us years from today,
Sharing a parkbench quietly?
How terribly strange to be seventy.
Old friends, memory brushes the same years,
Silently sharing the same fears.
