Mind if I toss in my two cents? (If you do, you can always delete this comment!)

You're young! If whatever you choose now doesn't work out, you can always try the other option later. Yes, the practical part of me recognizes the financial limitations of living in Boston for someone in your profession. I know that the possibility of moving again later means putting up even more money. But if you don't take a chance (no matter which of these two options you choose), you'll look back on this and wonder "what if".. and, to me, that's worse than making what turns out to be the "wrong" decision.

Am I making sense?

I kinda went through something similar in '99, when I lost my job due to a corporate buyout and had been sorta involved with "this guy" for about six months. I won't bore you with the whole sordid tale now, but suffice it to say that being young and mobile is a wonderous thing when you want to take a chance at making a fresh start/new life for yourself.

Catch me on TIM or AIM if you wanna talk, okay? :)

I agree that sometimes taking a chance is the best thing to do. And the part of me that lives for spontaneity and adventure agrees with me.

The part of me, though, that would use all of my savings and incurs the potential of having to move in with my parents/grandparents shudders at the thought, though.

I can make a fresh start wherever I go. I don't need to move 1000 miles away for that. I don't think I realized that before.

There are beaches in Northern Ohio. Not the same as the ocean, but within driving distance for a weekend.

THis may be just me because I grew up on Lake Erie, but I find the ocean totally disgusting. The water is so slimey when you swim in it from the salt, and if you accidently swallow some or get some up your nose or in your eyes..... OWWWWWW and BLECK!
Lake Erie smells... but it smells like fish and stuff. Yeah there's seaweed, but it's fairly easy to avoid if you wanna swim.
I dunno, to each their own I guess :-)

I suppose it all depends what you grew up with and what you're used to.

Swimming in the ocean isn't all that great (because of salt), but getting tossed in waves is. But it's the /sound/ of the ocean I love so much. :)

I hate the muck at the bottom of lakes.

The more and more it sounds like you'd be better off in Colombus, if only for a few years. You'll have an easier time getting a job, and your money situation would be such that you could save up even more money in prep for eventually moving to Boston.

In both places you have friends. You're such a wonderful outgoing person that I don't doubt you could find (and make you own in short order) a queer community in Boston. There's kickboxing in Boston, too. You love Boston, but it sounds more and more like you really like Colombus now.

I can't tell you what to do, but if you decide you hate Colombus after a year, you can always move to Boston then. It'll still be here. It would be very hard to get back the pro's of Colombus if you move away, and try to return. And hey, we live very near the ocean, and you're always welcome in our guest room.

It's nice to have caring, understanding friends. I still don't know what to do, but things are starting to seem a little more "clear cut" to me.

Some things are still haywire, but I suppose that's part of the fun, right?

(And when I said "kickboxing," I should have said "kickboxing with Master Clements," because I really love her.)

How often do you go to the ocean anyway? You can drive or fly there from Columbus. Tickets to Wash DC are like $99.

Honestly, I would go to the ocean on a weekly or semi-weekly basis if I could.

I included [livejournal.com profile] columbus and [livejournal.com profile] diannaandbill under 2. Good friends!

But there are always vacations. This is true.

Boston is just so expensive. I'm still really struggling to pay rent and bills...all the time, and I have been here now 3 and a half years. I miss how cheap things were in Tuscaloosa, although that wasn't really a place that could have held my attention for any length of time.

If I thought Wiley could find well-paid work that would hold his interest the way QA work has somewhere cheaper to live, I might well be agitating to move. We're both well paid, and it's so expensive to have bought a home here that it cuts into even our quality of life. I mean, how nice would it be to be able to CHOOSE whether I want to stay at home or work time? To be able to choose to only work part time if that was what I wanted (and it probably IS what I would choose, given the choice).

But even making what we do, it's not there. But, for the work he does, we're pretty comitted to living where the high-tech firms are (Boston, or CA, really). It pretty well sucks.
