I have no idea what New Orleans looked like before, but wow - it's so beaten down. Seeing all of the burned out and boarded up buildings on Canal Street is staggering. So many looted shoe stores, just boarded up or left half-open and full of trash. So much rubble and construction, broken windows, empty buildings. Every so often I catch a glimpse of something I remember from the pre- and post-Katrina photos that were all over the internet and my breath catches. Going over the highway, the one I've only ever seen in photos swarming with stranded folks, was intense.
Hello from the Crescent City!
We're taking a little break between our morning/early afternoon activities (breakfast at the hotel. art galleries, coffee shop, st. louis cathedral, po-boys at petunia's) and our evening activities (ghost tour, dinner at palace cafe) to chill at the hotel and change clothes. I uploaded some more pictures to my flickr set.
We stand happily corrected; our room was serviced while we were out. Perhaps the weekly service only applies to hotel residents. Yay!
The weather is simply stunning today, just how I like it - low 80s, moderate humidity, slight breeze, lots of sunshine. Perfect.
This photo is such an accurate representation of me, it's stunning. I'm pretty lean from the waist up, and then - WHAM! - trunkbutt! Ha ha, awesome.
