judecorp: (coming home)

So after all of the cool stuff I did yesterday afternoon, my evening/night went like this:

-went to Kaleidoscope
-went to kickboxing
-showered and called Mel
-had dinner with Mel at Union Station
-ran into 3 boys I know at Coffee Table
-took quick walk in Goodale Park
-drove to Westerville
-went to Graeter's and met Sara
-ate free ice cream (WOOT! Thanks so much.)
-stopped at Starbak and hung out with Ryan
-jumped on the trampoline
-laid on trampoline under stars with Ryan and Mel
-went back to Mel's
-fell asleep

(I put 100 miles on my car yesterday. CRAZY!)

This morning I slept in while Mel did doula-duty, because I volunteered to wait for her cable people to come between 12 and 2. I spent the morning doing free laundry (Thank you SO MUCH!!) and watching movies on cable. I saw this movie (Southern Comfort) that was a documentary about a terminally ill transman and his friends in rural Georgia, and Pay It Forward. Mel is so damned cool, and I'm very lucky (and thankful) we're friends.

And there aren't enough nice things I can say about my Ryan. He is, no contest, the best boyfriend I've ever had, and an amazing friend, too.

Maybe you should be happy you didn't have movie night here...we watched Cthulhu Mansion and Snoop Dogg's Bones...

Oh dear gods, you are so right. I am afraid of anything Cthulhu-related. :)

Well, it reallly didn't have much to do with Cthulhu. But it did have this one really cheesy effect where these giant hands grabbed a scantily-clad young woman and dragged her into a refridgerator.

Scantily-clad young woman - woot!

*lol* I thought you might enjoy that. I'll never understand why all the women in b-grade horror look good (if a bit trashy), but all the men look like crap.

(because those movies aren't made for people who like men)

Cool beans dude!
I watched Southern Comfort and thought it was an excellent docudrama...it made me sad though...:(

I thought it was pretty good. It was fairly objective, and I liked that. I liked that it showed transpeople who were "not glamourous" (if that makes any sense). I liked that it showed so many different facets of Robert's life - current partner, family... I especially liked Robert's commentary that to his young grandchild, he's always been "Paw Paw" and that was really moving to me. And the part where his son came to visit, well, that got my head spinning - I mean, this man is trying so hard to stay in Robert's life and be supportive, but, like, it must be /so/ hard to see your /biological mother/ as a man. Wow. Wow.

Granted, I'm prone to get into this stuff because I like to learn about trans issues, but I thought it was pretty well done. :)

What did you think?

Overall I thought this was an excellent presentation. The thing that bugged me was when he talked about when he tried to get help he couldn't because he was trans sexing...is that such a word ? I thought that was terrible and close minded of the health industry to do that to him. I also did like the "Paw Paw" comment and how his son was staying involved in his life even if his son knew him as "mom" before. I also liked how his friends all rallied around him and how supportive they were to him and vice versa. I had met a trans a while ago...he was going to my church at the time...and it bugged me how a few people had reacted towards him. I have always felt that no matter what your prefrence or what you decide to do with your body you should be treated fairly regardless..and leave the rest to God or a higher being to judge...so I really thought "Southern Comfort" was a good documentry of what goes on in a trans life...and the issues one would have to face...the fears...hopes...etc..

The health industry is closed-minded to a lot of people - including people who are unable to pay. I swear, it's like you don't have a right to be healthy in this country, and that is terrible.

Anyway, it's cool that you are trans-inclusive. :) I knew I liked you for a reason.

Your welcome on the free ice cream :) I always feel so damn special whenever I have visitors. If you are ever in the area (so you dont have to drive 20 miles again), feel free to come on by. Im at Graeters more than my home.

Hee. Well, since my Sekrit Boyfriend works in the area, I may take you up on that. And we still have to hang out non ice cream sometime.

Ah I see, I see.

Yes I have been talking to your lil bro. Hes quite amusing. We talked for almost 3 hours today. He informed me that he works less than 5 minutes from my Graeters (and my house), and also previously worked on the same damn street as a place I used to work. Weeeeeirdness. He also tried to convince me to join his band. Haha.

He does indeed work a few minutes away from your Graeter's. He and [livejournal.com profile] whod81 work there, and I stopped there after enjoying your wonderful free ice cream the other night.

I should be sleeping. Why am I not sleeping?
