Faith Mission - Second Interview
Aug. 13th, 2002 06:49 pmSo I went to my second interview at Faith Mission today. It was certainly interesting. I met with the Executive Director, which was a little intimidating. I didn't know he was the ED until later, when I saw his name tag. Oops. Anyway, he was very nice, middle aged. He has a child about to go into college, and has been married a long time.
He asked interesting questions. The "standard interview questions" were asked on the first interview, so these were a little more mind-jarring. Describe your biggest achievement. Describe your biggest failure. How do you feel about working for a faith-based agency? You could tell he was paying attention, too. I mentioned something in one of my answers about being a superhero, and he asked where the chinks in my armor were. Nice question.
I told him that my biggest accomplishment was getting divorced, because it made me realize that I have limitations but that I can deal with them. It made me realize that not all things should continue, even when you really want to make them. It made me realize that I am not perfect, that I never will be perfect, but that I was still amazing. I think that even though he's a very married man who went to seminary, he could totally appreciate that. I told
jost that I left out the part that I'm a big old dykola, and he said, "Yeah, I never get to use 'I like to go down on women' in my job interviews, either." HAR HAR. Of course, I could then say that my biggest failure was divorce-related, too - mostly about how I will never ignore unsettling feelings I have, and I won't sell out my principles, either. He said I was resilient and I always think that's tacky, but still, I guess it means he thought I was okay.
He actually told me, during the interview, that the only reason he was seeing me (I don't think he's done any other second interviews) was because Tammy (the first interviewer) really liked me. I was flattered, but I kind of thought she did when she wanted me to see him right away and kept saying things like, "I want to hire for this position by tomorrow." I think she was trying to rush me through so she wouldn't have to interview any more people. She /is/ interviewing people, though - when I went in for my interview this morning, someone was filling out an application and waiting for his interview. It was a classmate of mine, Jeff Dubin. That was a little odd, because I am competing against someone I know, /and/ I know he used to work there before. Hrm. We got to talk about applying for jobs, though, and it was nice to know that I am not the only one who doesn't have a job yet and who has been looking all over. *sigh*
So Executive Director man, after he told me that Tammy really liked me, said that he liked me too, and that it was nice talking to me. He also said that he hoped to make a decision by the end of the week, but made sure to cover his ass and not say anything that would imply that I might have this job. I asked about the possibility of flexing a little of my time to stay in kickboxing, and he said he didn't think it would be a problem. So things could be very very YAY at Faith Mission.
I said it before and I'll say it again - I WANT THIS JOB!
I think I'm going to go to Vic's in a little while and do some reading. Yeah.
