Since my 11:00 client was a no-show...
Oct. 22nd, 2002 11:43 am1. Your LiveJournal "username" & what it means:
Well, it means "smurf chick." Yes, I'm so complex. But why 'smurfchick'? Years and years ago, my online persona was d'arcy or judabaga. But then for random things like eBay or Travelocity, I got into the habit of using 'smurfjude' or 'judiesmurf'. And then when I was working at Stonewall, I created a profile at Out in Columbus and didn't want my name involved, so I switched 'smurfjude' to 'smurfchick'. Man, I'm longwinded.
2. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) how well does your LiveJournal represent who you actually are?
10. I don't lie in my journal. You know what? I'm 27. I used to be married to a boy. We're divorced. I have two cats. I live in Columbus. I have a great girl. All of these things are true.
3. How much about your life do you post to LiveJournal?
I used to post damned near everything. I had a lot of time to post and I put so much stuff into it: everything I was doing, everything I was thinking, everything I was feeling. I remember rehashing my marriage for a while, and that was insanely personal. I just don't have time these days, so not nearly as much.
4. Is there anything you refuse to post about?
I learned my lesson about posting about people I am angry with, and I won't do that anymore. When Jennifer and I were having a lot of problems, I was keeping that out of this journal, too.
5. On a scale of 1-10, how interesting do you think your own journal is to others?
I used to think it was really interesting. I had a lot to say and I thought I said it in interesting and clever ways. Now I'm not so sure. I think the banalities of my daily life are interesting to the people who want to keep up with me, but not to strangers. I'd say 5.
6. From who/how did you find out about LiveJournal?
thespian kept telling me to read her LiveJournal, and I would sporadically read. Then one day I decided to make my own.
7. Has anyone ever joined LJ because of you?
I'd say that I conned half of
tinytim and half of
castledimage into joining LJ.
kieron made an LJ to read my locked posts, and so did
bodhimindspirit. I'm sure I had a little to do with
smurfbrother. Yeah. :)
8. What proportion of your posts are friends only?
Sometimes I write about work, and I may lock those depending on the information. When I used to complain about my boss, I would lock it. I have a special lock for Jennifer - I post to that about every other month or so. Otherwise, not much. Nope.
9. What is your favorite interest on LiveJournal?
"ryan vile" or "pissing you off"
10. Has anything on LiveJournal ever caused you to establish, re-think, or even change your belief or position on something?
Because of
whod81, I came out straight on National Coming Out Day! But seriously, reading other people's opinions always gives me cause to think, but I'm usually too damned stubborn to change my position.
11. How often do you respond / comment on other people's journals?
I used to do it all the time. Lately, though, I haven't been using my computer as much as I had been, so comments are slipping. Sometimes I find time to just sit in front of my computer, and then I'll go on a posting rampage. PHEAR ME!
12. Do you prefer to write in your journal or read other journals?
I am a narcissist. I prefer to read what I write in my own journal. ;)
13. Have you ever had something mean said to you or been stalked, harassed, or got into an argument/flame war on LiveJournal (or did it to someone else)?
I have never been involved in any flame war. Once last fall, though, I wrote about feminism, male domination, and mysogyny and my LJ turned into a war about the definition of sexism. During that time, I was called a man-hater and stuff, and I wasn't too keen on that. The closest thing to stalking was when
smithee went through back posts in my LJ, figured out where I live, and came to kiss me. SCORE!
14. Have you ever banned someone from your journal?
Who wants to be the first one?
15. Who is your favorite LiveJournal friend and why?
That's a ridiculously hard question. If I had to pick someone I /only/ know from LiveJournal, I'd have to go with
auntiesiannan or
cappucinogrrl or
brosie or
swisscheesed. But I'm just chock full o' love.
16. How many of your LJ friends have you actually met?
A lot of my LJ friends are old net.friends that I have met over the 9 (NINE!) years I've spent too much time on the internet. All of the LJ people on my friends list from
columbus are there because I've met them. There aren't that many people on my list that I haven't met.
17. Of all of the people on LJ you know of, who is the most like you?
That would be a close call between
kieron,
rizzo41, and
smurfbrother.
18. Why are you most likely to add someone to your friends list?
Because I've met them and I really like them.
19. Do you automatically add friends to your journal if they add you first?
No. I'm totally a selective jerk. Sometimes I even read people's journals without adding them. Sometimes I'll go through and check out the people I haven't added and see what they're up to, and then I'll add them. Sometimes I take people off! I am such a bastard.
20. What is the most likely reason you wouldn't add someone to your friends list?
Someone added me once and their whole journal was filled with those quiz result pictures. BLAH.
21. Is your "significant other" on LiveJournal?
*waves to the very lovely Ms.
kieron*
22. Have you ever wanted to meet someone on LJ?
I've met so many by this point, duh. As a matter of fact, I just had an LJ Birthday Party. How nerdy is that? ;)
Today at lunch, I'm headed down to the downtown Faith Mission location for a relay race/obstacle course. Hee. This United Way kickoff week is really cracking me up. There's a bake sale tomorrow and a pizza party on Friday. I am such a team player gooberschmuck.
I went back and forth about donating to the United Way from my paycheck. I don't like the United Way on principle because they fund the Boy Scouts. I still have issues with the Boy Scouts, not only because they discriminate against LGBT people, but because I used to work for the National Council and I am appalled that people that I gave my energy and sweat to would continue to support this. UGH! But then the conundrum is that my workplace gets big money from the United Way... so I caved. I'll give $50 this year - $40 for Lutheran Social Services and $10 for the Columbus AIDS Task Force. I would give them more, but I raised $250 for them in the AIDSwalk this summer.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! Anyone going to MEETUP tonight?

I, fortunately, am not a chauvinist pig.
I just think like one sometimes.

Date: 2002-10-22 09:47 pm (UTC)The Girl Scouts of America took the word "God" out of their pledge a while back to eliminate some discrimination. They also embrace openly queer people as leaders. Of course, I'd imagine some troops are less liberal than others, but on the national level, this is policy. YMMV.
