You never know how much ASL you've forgotten until you're trying to communicate with a deaf person.
You never realize that your memories aren't really like other people's until you share yours and are accused of trying to ruin something.
You never know how much running around you've done until you stop, and are wiped out.
You never know how far you've come until you look back.
You just never know.

Please do. ASAP. I mean, my goodness, I can't believe all I could manage to say on the spot was, "I'll call Deaf Services tomorrow."

Sheesh!

I think we all have good memories and bad memories to share.

I was just telling another LJ friend of mine that I don't think of any of my holiday memories as particularly bad, partially because they're not any worse than memories of other days with my family, and partially because they're coated over with the scents, colors, and lights of the holidays.

My family is totally screwed up. There's really no denying this. Between the crying jags, the huge blow-outs, the suicide attempt, the training bra mortification, and others that I won't even go into, the story I related is quite comical.

But I suppose that's neither here nor there.

I understand. I guess we couldn't see the humor of it.

My apologies, then. Aah well. Score one for me - way to ruin the parties!

You didn't ruin anything.

Yeah, I'm not aware of any ruination. But if anyone thought any of your stories put the damper on any kind of joyful mood, then I'm DAMN glad I didn't recount my Xmas of 1998, when my dad informed me that he and my stepmother were divorcing.

Of course that was like the best present ever, but as a matter of principle you just don't drop that kind of bomb on a holiday....

True. Fortunately my holidays have been non-descript. Birthdays are another matter.

I wish my dad had gotten divorced in 1998 instead of waiting until last year!

I have to say that I completely agree!! Especially on the ASL and Deaf conversation...I was smacked into that reality at the beginning of this quarter when one of my students showed up and was Deaf. Luckily, the more you use it...the more it pops back!!

(Side note: I found you through [livejournal.com profile] happy2beso who noticed that I worked for OSU in ResLife...read an off-colour comment about GLBTSS and mentioned to me that you worked with them last year!! Woops. A conversation for another day.)

So Hello. Nice to Read you...

Howdy doo!

Actually, [livejournal.com profile] happy2beso mentioned you to me briefly when we had coffee the other day, and I had been meaning to check you out as well. She'd mentioned that you weren't too pleased with GLBTSS, and I'll admit to a passing curiosity, but I'll leave it at that. :)

I hope things are great in your neck of the woods!
