I was notified at work today that at the "In Focus" meeting (this quarterly meeting that all Faith Mission employees must attend - they have one at 8am and one at 4pm - I go to the 8am one because there are donuts), administration is going to make us sign agreements saying that we will not use the Internet for personal reasons at work. My boss (who put the bug in my ear) mentioned that use could be grounds for immediate expulsion (though I'm assuming - possibly erroneously - that immediate expulsion would probably be for porn).

I am so incredibly annoyed about this. If my workplace is going to forbid me from reading my personal email on my lunch break (I can live without livejournal, as I can see more arguments against that), I am going to commit hari krishna on them. *grumble* This didn't add to the funk I was in today. I snapped at Coworker Preston because he was teasing me, and then I had to apologize a lot. And I'm concerned about my favorite girl.

One up side to today was being able to make fun of my Work Stalker. We got into a little discussion about how he treated one of my residents, and he got really touchy because there was an insinuation that he could be gay. He got all hot and bothered about what would happen to him if rumors got started. I got such glee out of shouting in the back, "Oh no, not that! It would be so terrible if someone thought you were /gay/! I mean, it's so awful to be gay! How horrible!" Finally he said, "Shut up, I should have known better than to talk to you." Score!

So tomorrow I have to clear out my web browser history and temporary internet files and cookies. That annoys the piss out of me. I wonder if they realize that it's counter productive, because now I'll be wasting the FM server to send emails to Jennifer all day in my ire!

This weather is dreadful. It is so cold. Thank goodness for the hat that my auntiesiannan made me!

i'm sure part of their internet use policy stems from assloads of "investigative reporting" where they go and harass who get federal/state/local funding. "look at your tax dollars at work, while jude sends email to her girlfriend! on the computer that you helped pay for! that means your tax dollars are not only supporting her big gay liberal agenda (tm), but they're also probably full of ridiculous amounts of lewd erotic conversation (that, for public saftey, should be subpoenad for scrutiny and to be added into the public record)." then some politician starts getting calls from the constiuancy... faith mission starts losing donations because they don't discriminate against (lesbians). all because you wanted check your personal email.

that's all a big mouthful, isn't it? i'd say it's likely the reason why, though. bigtime CYA.

Apparently, there was the dreaded ACCESS OF PORN! *gasp* But of course, when I asked my supervisor, "Do you know what is considered pornography?" she had no answer. This immediately got me nervous because I /do/ occasionally use work Internet for my Big Gay Agenda^TM, and for a lot of people, gay = porn. But she said that someone was downloading naked pictures. In all likelihood, probably someone on third shift, because when do we have time to look at pr0n?!?!?

Anyway, I'm pretty livid. But the residents get to check their online email from our resource center, and if I have to go in there to do it, I will.

We can be fired without argument if we are found using the email at work for personal reasons. So anytime I send a 'hi how are you' email to one of my co-workers I am in danger of being seperated from payroll. We only had internet access for a few months before it was taken away from us because we 'abused' it so badly. Mind you a lot of information we need for our jobs is on the net and we can't get to it... but that's just the intellegence of your local phone co's at work. I think the whole thing is foolish. If they are worried about us downloading porn then they can get one of those net nanny programs and shut up about it already. Good luck, Jude.
