The Mayna Interview
Jun. 5th, 2003 11:01 am1. Are you still friends with Michelle, and did she follow the same pattern you did?
No, and no. My first week of college, I wrote her a letter. She wrote me a letter back. I wrote her a second letter, and it was never answered. We haven't spoken since. From what I've heard, she is a high school history teacher in Southern New England, is married, and has at least one child. If I see her at the reunion, I would love to catch up with her.
2. What is it about
kieron that you find most attractive?
It really is the whole entire package - all of her fits together in such an attractive way, and I could not resist. However, if I had to pick one thing that /really/ attracts me, I'd say her art. She has such a passion and such a light when she's talking/thinking creatively, and I love to just be in the room with her when she's working on something. And, well, when she's doing things with her hands... or if she has paint splatters on her... rowr.
3. Do you have any cute nicknames you've gone by (other than smurfchick)?
In high school, a friend of mine called me Zwieback. (He said I was a biscuit, a baby biscuit.) My brother has called me a number of variations on my name, including Judaroo, and Judebug. Then again, he also calls me Dork-o. People have called me Judemeister, Judabaga (for my brother is Rutabaga), Meanie Smurf, and Smurf.of.Love. My Big High School Boyfriend (Don) called me Boo. When I was a camp counselor, some kids called me "Princess Judie, Smurf of Love" or "Princess Smurf." In my young online existence, I was known as D'Arcy. At work, I'm "that little crazy White girl."
4. Aside from the big M, do you have any regrets?
I don't even regret the Big M, although the person I am today would have chosen more wisely and been a little more selfish. I feel that regret is akin to shame, and I'm not ashamed of anything I've ever done. Like anything else, it was a learning experience. Sometimes I wish I had put my foot down and insisted on going to Mount Holyoke College (my first choice) instead of Hofstra (my dad's choice), but I had a wonderful time at Hofstra so it's all good.
5. If you could be any smurf, which smurf would you smurf, I mean, be.
Vanity.
6. (a 6th because #1 isn't really about YOU). What kind of social work job do you think you'd like to take next, assuming you have a lot of choices?
Next? Well, the job market here isn't all that great. I'm going to go back to applying for jobs that work with young people, and I'd like to get one of those. (My concentration was Child & Family.) However, my target population, the group I want to work with for the rest of my life if I'm ever so blessed to get such a job, is LGBTQ adolescents.
