East Hall, which I don't think was here 8 years ago. It's the building the houses the English and ACS offices. I'm finishing up my MA in Lit, and I taught English 111 and 112 here. I'm moving to University of New Mexico in a couple of weeks, so this won't be my number for long!
Did you like BG? I think I'll miss it when I'm gone.
No, East Hall wasn't there. I did see it a couple of years later when I was visiting the campus. I'm kinda upset that the plopped that in the middle of the beautiful green that had been there between the Ed building an the Library. And in middle of the nice view that I had across the green from my room, too. :(
I got my BS in Social Studies Ed there. I then went on to OSU for my MA in Geography.
I loved it at BG (except for the week in 1994 when we had highs around -5F with the harsh winter prairie winds). I do miss it, but there really isn't much to do if you don't have a car and aren't concentrating on studies. Well, there were the hockey games, and being the hockey nut that I am, that was always fun. :)
Too bad you're leaving so soon. But the best of luck to you in Albuquerque. :)
I like East Hall A LOT, because I have a nice office that I share only with pantagruel. I've heard horror stories of past TA bullpens that had 6 or 7 people to a phone. Not for me.
I don't have a car, and all I do is work. So, BG has been really good for me. I live nearly at the center of town, and spend most of my time at Grounds for Thought drinking coffee. Was it here 8 years ago? It is quite large now.
Yes, and there is another one in the "mall" now. I have been there a handful of times, but it's just not my thing. When I first moved here, I went to a new coffeehouse on Court St., but they didn't do a very good business and became a lunch cafe place instead. That's when I started going to Grounds. I live directly across from the Cla-Zel, so they are all really close.
Oh, I'm sure that East Hall is a nice building. I just don't like its location. I used to have such a beautiful view from my room out across the green, and now there's just a big building there. :(
At OSU, my TA office shared a phone line with the office across the hall (a phone in each office running off the same line!), and there were five of us in my office and at least three in the office across the hall, maybe four. That would be 8 or 9 TAs sharing a phone! Talk about situations that suck! But we're TAs, so we're not important *snork*.
Yes, Grounds for Thought was there when I was at BG. It's a nice coffee shop, and I can remember a few meetings there to set strategy for College Dems stuff. :) It was pretty large, even back then.
I am not teaching. My student teaching experience caused me to decide that it wasn't for me, at least not right now. I had a student nearly punch me, for one thing. For another, parental involvement is such a frustrating thing; the students that need their parents involved would have no involvement and those that didn't need it had more than enough (like the mom who said she'd ground her daughter if she had any grades lower than an A-). So I was fortunate enough to get an assistship right out of BG, and to get my MA in Geography. I'm currently unemployed, but hoping to get a geography job before too long.
I was curious to see if you were teaching because I was an English Ed major for a bit as an undergrad. My first year made me realize it was *so* not me.
Grounds for Thought expanded a few months ago, so now it is larger than before. It's almost like having a real bookstore in BG! Of all the places in here, I think I'll miss it most of all!
Yeah, Grounds was always a really nice place to hang out and have a cup or three (and some fine pastries, too!).
Thanks for the luck on the job search. I have an interview with a temp agency on Monday, but they don't fill jobs in my field. The best that they could give me is secretarial/data entry type work. I filled with less than excitement.
Feel free to IM or email me if you want to chat sometime.
I lived in Twinsburg off and on from 1980 until this May, so you can pretty much say that I grew up there. :) I know Akron fairly well, but not quite everything there. I'm also pretty good with getting around the southern and eastern suburbs of Cleveland. :)
It's not too late, but I think I am going to leave my 4th floor office for a bit and hide in the 2nd floor lounge, where I will be far away from this distracting Internet thing. :-)
