I just finished my Visual Profile for In2Books - a project that links adult pen pals up with young readers to communicate about books and reading. [livejournal.com profile] binkiegirl tipped me off to them, and it's such a fantastic idea!

I'm not terribly artistic, and I realized after I wrote in marker that some of my sentences slope uphill, but oh well. It's fun!

p.s. Jennifer is the best for being there for me the way she is. Her responses are always perfect. (Sometimes that really pisses me off. *wink* And I think her boss should give her Monday the 8th off so we can have our OWN Labor Day Weekend.)

Yeah - I was floored. It sounds like so much fun. And WHAT A DEAL -- they give all of the kids /and/ all of the adult pen pals free books!

I'll letcha read my books. :)

(Which reminds me, I still need to dig out my BoS for you.)

Actually I signed up to do it too, since I've been wanting to do something similar for years. AEP does a similar program here in town where you actually go to the school and read to the kids, but I like the idea of this one much better. If we get different age kids, we can trade off books!

Ooh yes, BoS!

Oh, cool, YAY!

We should get together soon, btw.

Yes we should. Daedalus owes me a date and caramel cheesecake.

It's true. He does. He is such a slacker sometimes.

When is good for you?

From: [identity profile] doulamel.livejournal.com
But he's a cute slacker so it's ok. Hmm, I have class tonight and he'll probably keep us forever. No clue about the weekend, except for a home visit for the dog tomorrow, but I believe all my evenings next week are available?

I /may/ be going out with another Melissa on Monday night. Tuesday night is sometimes Secret Date Night. I volunteer on Wednesday night. Thursday?

Sure! I'll type you in!

Shoot, now I have to REMEMBER.

I am going to write it down now. Err, Daedalus is.

Same here. Remembering is NOT my strong point these days at all. :( Only thing the Risperdal doesn't seem to be helping.

Well, if we forget, we won't take it personally. :)

(But we'll remember.)

From: [identity profile] doulamel.livejournal.com
Exactly. And yes we will remember. Because it'll be in my iBook. But I have to remember to put it in there first. ;)

I just realized last night that I never got my welcome package from them, so I haven't even STARTED my stuff. Eeeeek!

Your profile is awesome!

I got my welcome package on Monday when we returned from California... and the letter said you had 2 weeks from when you got your welcome package.

But then I got email last night saying it had to be mailed by the 15th!! So I was scrambling.

You might want to call them and see what's up.

I e-mailed them last night saying that I hadn't gotten the package. If I don't get a response soon, I probably will try to call them.

I figured I could do some of the stuff on-line, then read the pdf guide that told me they were sending "special" paper and stuff, so now I'm just waiting.

I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

It was a lot of fun! I did my intro letter last night. The hard part was finding stuff to put on my poster. It was almost like doing a project for elementary school!

I'm really excited to be doing this. I can't wait to get my pen pals!

& I LOVE your handwriting!!

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Thank you!

That's not /really/ my handwriting. I tried to write like a little kids' book (this is for 2nd and 3rd graders).

I should write to you sometime so you can see my real chicken scratch! :)

What do you think I am, some sort of [livejournal.com profile] psychostalker? :)

Criminal Check!

From: [identity profile] mythicalbeast.livejournal.com
You'll have no problem with this given you have it done everytime you sneeze at a job posting, but I suspect very strongly it kills any chance a non-yankee has of helping them.

Yeah, I don't know if you have to live in the US to participate, but they certainly make it very clear that they background check.

I think they're mostly looking to weed out [livejournal.com profile] psychostalkers who prey on children.

Hmmm. This looks really interesting. Now I have to figure out what all my old addresses were.

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Holy cow, that was torture! I'd lived in 7 addresses in 7 years, and I had to go and find all of my old tax information just to get the addresses.

UGH.

Yo, where did you get that picture of the little waterfall? It's the same picture that was on the little pamphlet things they handed out at my uncle's funeral. Ha!

Date: 2003-08-15 08:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
That's craziness!

That picture of the waterfall is actually a postcard. When A. and I went on our honeymoon to the Smoky Mountains, he bought a 10-pack of "nature" postcards from Smoky Mountain National Park.

Yeah.

Hey hon just wanted to let you know that I ended up signing up as well as a result of your post! I had the same problem with the addresses though:) Anyway I'm apparently accepted since they emailed me to let me know my welcome packet is on the way! Yay for helping little kids learn:)
