It's no secret that I was having a pretty lousy day. My friend Jean called me in the early evening and was chattering away, and I actually had to stop her and tell her that I was in a crappy mood and would like to call her another time. I don't do that very often... I can hardly think of a handful of times. I was going to go to [livejournal.com profile] crena's for ice cream, but Tyler was sick. This was for the best, since, well, I was in a mood.

Jennifer and I opted for a quiet night at home, the first we've had since returning from California. I made dinner (out of a box, of course) and then we drove to Big Bear Plaza to get ice cream supplies and videos. We rented Ghost Ship and Real Women Have Curves, and since they were both short, we watched them back to back. We got Ghost Ship for the Julianna Margulies factor (yum), and I thought it was entertaining - not terribly scary, but had fun gory goodness. I was really excited to see Real Women because everything I'd heard about it sounded good.

I loved it. Absolutely loved it. There was slight trauma since the mother in the movie reminded Jennifer of her own mother (and goodness, was she right about that) and me of my grandmother, but other than that, it was fantastic. I saw so much of myself in Ana, and it was so refreshing to watch her on the screen. It was like going back in time. I feel younger now.

And, well, it didn't hurt that America Ferrera has become my new Crush Of The MomentTM. It helps that her age ends in -teen (yes, I admit it, I have a problem), but she is positively lovely:

Nothing like a movie that reminds me of my grandmother. Did I mention that I get to come out to my grandparents /and/ tell them Jen and I live together all at the same time? Heh. When my father had a heart attack in 2001, he told me not to tell them I was queer. Normally I don't take that sort of directive, but he had nearly died, and was sick, and I caved. But I told him I was only giving him until he felt better. Last Christmas when I was home, I let him know that I was going to talk about Jen at home just like I talk about her everywhere else, and we did, but I didn't directly come out and tell my grandparents how serious it was. (I'm pretty sure she knows, she's smart like that, but well...). So yeah. That will be fun. Happy Birthday, Grandma!

My favorite scene in Real Women Have Curves is when they take off their clothes and point out their stretch marks. "From east to west." "From north to south."

So, wait, you have a thing for teenage girls? Cough.

Well, shoot, everyone knows about my Olsen Twins fascination. I am dirty. It's a fact. ;)

I loved that movie so much! When they all took off their clothes, I just wanted to cheer out loud. I was /so/ hoping the mom would give in a little bit. Aah well.

It is the twins who are dirty little tramps.
They will never love you as I love you!
