Tomato Queen 2003

judecorpToday I got to see the crowning of the Tomato Queen and her Four Attendants at the Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival. And I was serenaded by a crooner that looked stunningly like my 
Barty. And I sampled /both/ the deep-fried twinkie /and/ the deep-fried oreo. And I ate green tomato pie, and fried green tomatoes, and pizza, and french fries, and shaved ice. (*burp*) And Barty won me a Smile Buddy, who apparently has a penchant for Mailbox Baseball and buggery. Just ask Daina. Oh, and I got to see a diorama of Ground Zero made out of popsicle sticks and grape tomatoes. (It won first prize, of course. Anyone who can't appreciate that grotesque effort must be a terrorist.)
But I mean, really... how often do you get to see the Tomato Queen?

Date: 2003-09-09 07:08 am (UTC)They had last year's court up there, and every single one of them was skinny and white and thanking God. And then the first bunch of contestants were white, too. But then there were three or four girls of color, and I think all of them won. I wonder if they're trying to make up for lost times?
