Today I got to see the crowning of the Tomato Queen and her Four Attendants at the Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival. And I was serenaded by a crooner that looked stunningly like my crushinatorBarty. And I sampled /both/ the deep-fried twinkie /and/ the deep-fried oreo. And I ate green tomato pie, and fried green tomatoes, and pizza, and french fries, and shaved ice. (*burp*) And Barty won me a Smile Buddy, who apparently has a penchant for Mailbox Baseball and buggery. Just ask calledmaraDaina. Oh, and I got to see a diorama of Ground Zero made out of popsicle sticks and grape tomatoes. (It won first prize, of course. Anyone who can't appreciate that grotesque effort must be a terrorist.)

But I mean, really... how often do you get to see the Tomato Queen?

Deep fried OREO?! Wow! What did you think of the Deep Fried Twinkee? I thought it was pretty good, but a bit hot in the middle.

The deep-fried Oreo was actually REALLY good. It was warm, and chewy, and delicious. I didn't care much for the deep-fried twinkie. To me, it tasted mostly like a too-fried doughnut, and the cream inside was a) too hot and b) practically melted away.

Next I have to try the deep-fried candy bar.

Apparently the deep-fried Mars bar is a delicacy in Scotland.

When I was in high school, one of my classmates was actually the Reynoldsburg Tomato Queen. Wooo, so famous!

What a presitigious honor! Heck, you get a scholarship, right? Sweet deal.

All 16 contestants seemed like very service-oriented girls. I was surprised - not only did they have several girls of color, but not all of them were skinny sticks. YAY!

Hmm, maybe they've changed things. Typically they're all skinny blonde wasps.

I was really surprised.

They had last year's court up there, and every single one of them was skinny and white and thanking God. And then the first bunch of contestants were white, too. But then there were three or four girls of color, and I think all of them won. I wonder if they're trying to make up for lost times?

And we wonder why Columbus doesn't get respected as a big city.
