How do you go to this thing called "work"? It has been far too long, and I'm not quite sure how to go about it. I have all these questions: What do I wear? What do I bring for lunch? What do I bring with me? What time should I get up in the morning? Should I eat breakfast first? It doesn't help that I'm completely neurotic, I suppose. Some of the questions could just basically be categorized in the "starting a /new/ job" realm, but some are definitely heightened by having not worked for three months. THREE MONTHS! That's one fourth of the year!

Tomorrow I must wake up, get ready, and head to my first day of work. The first few weeks of a new job are always the worst, because you're just inundated with new information, new routines, new faces, new names. I hope their training process is better than their hiring process, otherwise I'm likely to go postal on them.

I think I'll wear something comfortable but somewhat nicer than my usual unemployed slacker wardrobe, but not too nice. I think I'd rather feel underdressed (and be comfortable) than overdressed and uncomfortable for no reason. Heck, it's the first freaking day. BUT, it's the first day that I get paid for 8 hours of work! WAHOO! (I don't think I'll get any sleep tonight.)

p.s. One of the highlights of my day was when my father said, on the telephone, that he wished Hillary Clinton would run for president so he could vote for her. And he wasn't even joking.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU! You'll do fine. Things will seem routine and comfortable before you know it.

Hopefully not TOO routine, or I'd get bored. :)

Thanks.

YOU are adorable! I bet you were awake at 4 in the morning on your first day of school, weren't you?

Giid luck tomorrow... of course everything will be great, and they're going to love you, and you're going to rock their socks.

Yes, I was this psychotic on my first day of school, too.

Heh, funny "first day of school" story:

On my first day of kindergarten, my father had given me some money to buy a backpack from the school store. It was one of those odd old fashioned backpacks (I guess they sort of called them "rucksacks") that had two D-ring buckles on the front to hold the flap closed. Well, I'd never seen such buckles before, and I wasn't sure what to do with my new backpack. So on the way home, I shoved my new pencil case under one of the straps (with the backpack firmly pressed closed, fresh from the box) and proudly walked my nerdy butt home.

(And then someone showed me how to actually open my backpack.)

Jude, I didn't work for 16.5 months (plus 25 minutes, 23 seconds, but who's counting?). I have a feeling you'll do fine. Just avoid doing what *I* did on my first day: getting so horribly sick (from being around PEOPLE again) that you MISS your third day of your new job. :)

Luckily, the gang I work with/for are great.

You'll do fine.

I hate starting new jobs, but I think your line of work is more absorbing and interesting than mine, so I don't think it will take you long to get back into the swing of things. Besides, clearly you know what you are doing and that's what matters.

And I hope you have a shiny new pencil box for your first day. :)
