judecorpI survived my first day of work, and all I can say is that it's likely to be very boring before it gets exciting. Apparently I'm not even allowed to have cases until I complete all of this FCCS-required core training, and that usually takes about three months. And right now, I don't even know when the core classes are, so I'm just trying to absorb all kinds of information that I won't even get to put into practice until next forever. I suppose I'll have to ask about that soon, although I'm following a coworker to court in the morning (ugh - my second day and I need to dress up AND go in early!). I need to find out about getting LISW supervision, too, because the Team Lead I was assigned to isn't even licensed. Whee.
The biggest perks of the job (so far as I can tell) are the casual dress code, the staff support for each other, and the fact that you get an hour of paid lunch (hours are 9-5 with an hour lunch, but you get paid for 40 hours). The downers include the aggravation of working under Children's Services, being hated by the clients, not being home when my Jennifer comes home for lunch, and (right now) the sitting around doing a lot of nothing. But hey, I'm getting paid, right?
After work, Jen and I went to say goodbye to
Steve because he's leaving for Basic Training tomorrow. He gave us the rundown of where all of his cat stuff is, because we'll be watching his house for him. We ate chinese food and watched slept through Y Tu Mama Tambien and I can't believe he'll be gone tomorrow. Adios, Esteban!
There is too much activity on my friends list, and I'm going to have to make a chop chop. I was bowled over when I got home today - major suckage - and I haven't gotten to check email or anything because I spent too much time reading posts. I just wish I didn't like you all so much. Aah well - I'm a crappy friend anyway. :) Really, I'll be doing you a favor.
I would expound more ridiculous wisdom on you, but it has come to my attention that the cutest girl in the universe is currently reading in my bed, and I'd be a fool not to crawl in beside her. Thank you to everyone who wished me a good first day - you're all very sweet and I appreciated it lots. Mwah!
