Okay, this is probably only funny to people who live in [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n, but still...

I sent out an email to members of my family (and other non-LJers) with the picture of our rings and the announcement that "She said yes!" This is the reply I got from my father:
Wish you both the best. RED SOX WON now back to calf. to finish them off! love dad

Yep. Only in Boston.

Congratulations, Jude!

I'm so happy for you and Jennifer and the rings are stunning.

As for Sox fans...

Apparently, the Patriots game at Gilette Stadium got a little confusing for the teams playing, because the fans there were watching the Sox game on tiny TVs while the Patriots game was in motion. The fans would cheer hysterically when the the Sox gained runs, whether or not the Patriots or the Titans were closing in for a field goal.

It was very surreal, apparently.

We love our Sox.

Yeah.

But somehow the Patriots pulled it off -- even through the mayhem.

(I never was a sports person before I met Chuck. Suddenly, sports have made their way into my life and I am able to do reasonable sports talk. This is as surreal as the Patriot's game, I assure you.)

Well, no disrepect to you or your family, but the Sox are the only team against whom I will root for the YankMes. I hate the Yanks, but I hate the BoSox even more. All those incessant back-porch YankMes/RedSox debates when I was kid in Connecticut...can't stand either team, but hate the Sox just a little bit more. Personally, I'm all for calling off the World Series and just giving the trophy to the winner of the Cubs/Marlins series (and I don't much like the Fish, either...).

I'll /try/ to still like you. Because, well, I like the Yankees AND the Red Sox, so pbbbbblt! :)

I am still trying to figure out how someone can be both a Yankees fan AND a Red Sox fan. That's sorta like combining matter and anti-matter, isn't it? That's how I always learned it. You Rhode Island people are weird! ;)

It's not ALL RI people, just me and my Dad. We're RIers, and Bostonites, but have a healthy love for the City.

See, I grew up right on the border of Red Sox country and Yankee country, and I got tired of the constant bickering (especially in 1978, when they had the one-game playoff...which started before school let out, and we got to sit in the hallway and watch it on TV for the hour before the buses arrived). I did see quite a few Bristol Red Sox games in the years 1977-79, and saw Rich Gedman and Wade Boggs while they were there. But I'll never be a Yankees fan, nor a BoSox fan. Just not going to happen. :)
