Shani left this morning, and that was very sad, because we wanted to keep her. Of course, she'd rather go home to Mr. Matthew, and I suppose I can understand, but we still want to keep her. After she left, I tried to fall back asleep, but there was a /huge/ cat fight - Ralph got Grendel cornered in the bathtub and they kept going at it. When I got there, Grendel was shrieking all over the place, there were clumps of fur everywhere, and Grendel had freaked out and peed in the tub. I am so frustrated with those cats, and I don't know what to do. Jen fell asleep, and I couldn't sleep, so I went into the guest room where Shani slept so I wouldn't wake Jen with my tossing and turning.

I woke up at 11:30 and got a message from Shani that there was a dead cat (not one of ours) in our driveway. I looked to confirm, and yes, there is a dead black cat curled up in our driveway. It has no tags. I need to call Dead Animal Disposal, but they're only open Monday through Friday (because animals never die on the weekends). That also freaked me out, but I ate some leftover cake and felt a little better. We were going to try to toss the cat ourselves, but I think I'll let it wait until tomorrow because I don't think I can deal with that.

While we were discussing the dead cat, my [livejournal.com profile] smurfbrother called me, which was great fun. While we were on the phone, Ralph walked right over and pissed on the living room wall right in front of me and Jen. I have NO idea what the hell is going on with the freaking cats, but I am so beside myself with frustration. I just don't know what to do. I don't want to get rid of any cats but I can't think of any way to fix the problem. And then I don't know which cat to get rid of, if we /do/ get rid of a cat. It breaks my heart. (But at least they're not dead in the driveway.)

Jen and I spent some quality time together, which eased a good deal of the frustration. But then I discovered that two people who left our birthday party because they were not feeling well actually went drinking at someone else's house all night instead. I hate when someone doesn't tell me the truth. Now I'm frustrated all over again.

At least I'm about to take a shower and then go to Hounddog's Pizza with Jen and Sarah Spazz0. And tonight is Dar and Shawn and Mary Chapin. Hooray!

p.s. Yesterday, I received packages from [livejournal.com profile] mythicalbeast and [livejournal.com profile] purpleboots. YAY! You guys are the bestest.

Myew, I hope your day's going better. =o.o=

People sometimes feel uncomfortable saying something like 'well, we're going to go drinking now while you're stuck at your birthday party.' I made that sound pretty assy, but it kinda would be. Mebbe they just didn't want to create that ackward social situation. Or mebbe they really did feel sick, then felt better a litle later. You could always kick their asses just to be sure! ^_~

As for the cats, I'm not sure what to tell you. The easiest solution for all involved WOULD be to get rid of one of the cats, and may ultimately be the only one. However, I know from experience that you do need to give them SOME play to establish a pecking order; this can usually involve some fighting, although that fighting sounds a bit worse than usual. Ralphie was being the aggressor, but her peeing on the wall would indicate that she's not happy with the situation in general. A few suggestions would be-

Be sure to give each cat attention and playtime specifically for them...and try not to do it in site of the others (to not increase tensions with jealousy...they're so...catty! X D )

Give them seperate litter boxes (ie, 3 cats=3 litter boxes.) This can sometimes take the edge off of tensions, and make them feel like they have something more of their own; the same with food dishes. More specifically, from [livejournal.com profile] foopirate-when my mom brougt in new cats, she made sure the old cat had a room that no other cats could go in and she had her own litter box and stuff too they get along okay now, but they aren't friends (hee hee, 'Nista is marrying a pretty smart person for a dumb boi, eh? X D)

It can kinda be a waiting game with them-with enough time, they may learn to tolerate each other; on the other hand, I think that some cats are just meant to be one-cat-house-cats. I hope it works out ok, and I hope my advice wasn't so much blah blah that you already knew-sorry if it was. Kitties should all be happy and hold paws, and only fight when under the influence of MIGHTY CATNIP!!! =^_^=~~

It just breaks my heart when the cats are both so clearly unhappy with the situation. :( I love all my little kitties and just want them to sleep all cuddled up and give each other lots and lots of lovin's!

We have two litter boxes (not three), but we do have three food dishes. The problem is that all the cats eat out of all the food dishes... they will go from dish to dish (how weird!)... as for a third litter box, that would probably help except that I don't know where the heck we would put it in the apartment. I wish we had a basement or something.

I am going to try not to get rid of any cats, but it just tears me up to see them so miserable. They all used to be such happy cats! :(

And yeah, I agree that it's weird/awkward to say you want to go do something else, but I just wish no one told me they were sick... because then I got all worried about them and fretted about whether they got home okay, and then found out they were just drinking somewhere else.

Thanks for the advice!

Mebbe put another (or one of) the litter boxes and a plate of food in the spare room? Then Grendel could mebbe have a 'safe haven'...my cat is HELLA retarded for safe havens now that she was taken away from her gay-boi bitch (who I miss terribly as well, but I think she's just being SILLY-she hates ALL cats now o_O;;)

Otherwise, see what there is online...I'm sure there's some good stuff out there (and of course lots o' shite X D) I know how much that would hurt to loose a cat because they can't get along. It's a matter of getting it to make sense to them...and that's alot like herding cats o_O;;

And I understand about the people saying they were sick. They shoulda thought of that too. You're such a mom (in a good way of course ^_~)

Your welcome! Yay for happy kitties! So they should just start now!!!! =^_^=~

I refilled the cat feeder in the upstairs bathroom. Maybe that will help some of the early morning fights - Jen thinks that Ralph is cornering Grendel when she is going downstairs to eat. We'll see.

I really just hope the whole thing mellows out. I don't want to see any cats peeing on the wall right in front of me ever again. Yesterday evening, Ralph and Grendel were both sleeping on the bed without incident. Here's to more evenings like that.

That sucks! Hopefully today is slow at work--I'll try and look up a bit more for you. That, or I could always bring Lynchie over....she'd show them what true terror is!!!

...no, really. I took her over to my coworker Bob's, and his cats have been getting along alot better since! =o_O=;;

im starting to hate my cats too... i want to get rid of them.. but i love them too much.. so far ive lost my house because of them.. and have payed mass amounts to replace various things theyve damamged... the only thing they have going for them is the fact that they dont urinate or defficate on anything.. so i guess im going to keep them around for the time being... that and live without them sounds impossible.

I sure hope that's the only one. I really don't want to be taking up a dead cat collection.

Blecch!

At least they peed in the tub...

My animals would run to the only patch of carpet within twenty miles to vomit on it

Well, the kitten peed in the tub (because that's where she was cornered). The bratty crazy calico peed in the living room, right beside the DVDs, WHILE SHE WAS LOOKING RIGHT AT US!

When I first got Shadow, Bella was truly evil to her. I was completely freaked out..thinking she was going to smother or kill her! After some time passed (and it DID take a while..argh) they became friends. Bella got over herself. Now they are happy lesbian kitties, and I would never bring Shadow to Columbus because I wouldn't want to separate them.
I hope your cats get it all out of their system and realize that they're stuck with eachother. :)

How do they act when you play with them with toys?

Date: 2003-10-20 11:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Well, when I play with toys, Daedalus and Ralph (my cats) will play together. Grendel is never in the same room with Ralph if she can help it, and when it DOES happen, she growls the whole time. I can't imagine her playing with them.

Grendel will play alone, but she's gotten SO neurotic and skittish since moving to the new place.
