Sunday Blahs
Oct. 19th, 2003 04:02 pmShani left this morning, and that was very sad, because we wanted to keep her. Of course, she'd rather go home to Mr. Matthew, and I suppose I can understand, but we still want to keep her. After she left, I tried to fall back asleep, but there was a /huge/ cat fight - Ralph got Grendel cornered in the bathtub and they kept going at it. When I got there, Grendel was shrieking all over the place, there were clumps of fur everywhere, and Grendel had freaked out and peed in the tub. I am so frustrated with those cats, and I don't know what to do. Jen fell asleep, and I couldn't sleep, so I went into the guest room where Shani slept so I wouldn't wake Jen with my tossing and turning.
I woke up at 11:30 and got a message from Shani that there was a dead cat (not one of ours) in our driveway. I looked to confirm, and yes, there is a dead black cat curled up in our driveway. It has no tags. I need to call Dead Animal Disposal, but they're only open Monday through Friday (because animals never die on the weekends). That also freaked me out, but I ate some leftover cake and felt a little better. We were going to try to toss the cat ourselves, but I think I'll let it wait until tomorrow because I don't think I can deal with that.
While we were discussing the dead cat, my
smurfbrother called me, which was great fun. While we were on the phone, Ralph walked right over and pissed on the living room wall right in front of me and Jen. I have NO idea what the hell is going on with the freaking cats, but I am so beside myself with frustration. I just don't know what to do. I don't want to get rid of any cats but I can't think of any way to fix the problem. And then I don't know which cat to get rid of, if we /do/ get rid of a cat. It breaks my heart. (But at least they're not dead in the driveway.)
Jen and I spent some quality time together, which eased a good deal of the frustration. But then I discovered that two people who left our birthday party because they were not feeling well actually went drinking at someone else's house all night instead. I hate when someone doesn't tell me the truth. Now I'm frustrated all over again.
At least I'm about to take a shower and then go to Hounddog's Pizza with Jen and Sarah Spazz0. And tonight is Dar and Shawn and Mary Chapin. Hooray!
p.s. Yesterday, I received packages from
mythicalbeast and
purpleboots. YAY! You guys are the bestest.

Myew, I hope your day's going better. =o.o=
Date: 2003-10-19 02:23 pm (UTC)As for the cats, I'm not sure what to tell you. The easiest solution for all involved WOULD be to get rid of one of the cats, and may ultimately be the only one. However, I know from experience that you do need to give them SOME play to establish a pecking order; this can usually involve some fighting, although that fighting sounds a bit worse than usual. Ralphie was being the aggressor, but her peeing on the wall would indicate that she's not happy with the situation in general. A few suggestions would be-
Be sure to give each cat attention and playtime specifically for them...and try not to do it in site of the others (to not increase tensions with jealousy...they're so...catty! X D )
Give them seperate litter boxes (ie, 3 cats=3 litter boxes.) This can sometimes take the edge off of tensions, and make them feel like they have something more of their own; the same with food dishes. More specifically, from
It can kinda be a waiting game with them-with enough time, they may learn to tolerate each other; on the other hand, I think that some cats are just meant to be one-cat-house-cats. I hope it works out ok, and I hope my advice wasn't so much blah blah that you already knew-sorry if it was. Kitties should all be happy and hold paws, and only fight when under the influence of MIGHTY CATNIP!!! =^_^=~~

Date: 2003-10-19 03:05 pm (UTC)We have two litter boxes (not three), but we do have three food dishes. The problem is that all the cats eat out of all the food dishes... they will go from dish to dish (how weird!)... as for a third litter box, that would probably help except that I don't know where the heck we would put it in the apartment. I wish we had a basement or something.
I am going to try not to get rid of any cats, but it just tears me up to see them so miserable. They all used to be such happy cats! :(
And yeah, I agree that it's weird/awkward to say you want to go do something else, but I just wish no one told me they were sick... because then I got all worried about them and fretted about whether they got home okay, and then found out they were just drinking somewhere else.
Thanks for the advice!

Date: 2003-10-19 05:04 pm (UTC)Otherwise, see what there is online...I'm sure there's some good stuff out there (and of course lots o' shite X D) I know how much that would hurt to loose a cat because they can't get along. It's a matter of getting it to make sense to them...and that's alot like herding cats o_O;;
And I understand about the people saying they were sick. They shoulda thought of that too. You're such a mom (in a good way of course ^_~)
Your welcome! Yay for happy kitties! So they should just start now!!!! =^_^=~

Date: 2003-10-20 08:34 am (UTC)I really just hope the whole thing mellows out. I don't want to see any cats peeing on the wall right in front of me ever again. Yesterday evening, Ralph and Grendel were both sleeping on the bed without incident. Here's to more evenings like that.

How do they act when you play with them with toys?
