I am so stressed out right now.

I have spent the last several weeks being nothing but giddy about the Simon & Garfunkel concert tonight. And then while I was at training, Jen left me voicemail that said that Peas and Sarah had gotten us $5 tickets so that we could sell our tickets and sit with them. And I was even MORE excited, because then I would have my money back and I would get to be with cool people!

But then later she let me know that the tickets are up high and behind the stage, and now I have this enormous decision. I hate enormous on-the-spot decisions, and I'm so freaked out now that I'm not even excited about the concert anymore. I mean, I can sit with my friends and sit behind the stage, and look at the back of S&G's heads for $5, or I can sit in our already purchased seats way up in the nosebleeds but in front of the stage, and may not see anything but blobs for $60. And then there's the possibility that we wouldn't be able to sell my expensive tickets even if we wanted to. Or that we would sell them and I would regret it, because they might have screens up in the nosebleeds or something.

I hate this.

I would vote friends every time. Plus, its a savings of 55 dollars! Friends plus 55 bucks? What a deal! :-)

once, at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, at a Billy Joel concert, the smell of pot got me so sick that I threw up. The security person moved us to the seats 'behind' the stage (Maple Leaf Gardens was, unsurprisingly, the home of the Maple Leafs most of the time, and so had hockey seating). I enjoyed it a lot from there; yeah, Joel's piano was tilted away from me, but I got a great view of how he worked; his hands on the keys, the 'backstage' people, etc.

I called the venue and asked some pertinent questions...I emailed it all to you at the jude email.

in a nutshell - back of stage - no guarantee there won't be equipment blocking view

front of stage far away - there *will* be screens for the nosebleed sections.

In my opinion, I like going to concerts for the music and the company of my friends. I would rather go to a show with my friends, and in crappier (and cheaper) seats than pay more to sit not with my friends and talk about the show to them later. I have had absolutely wonderful seats that were kind of behind the stage. And, you can use the $55 for dinner or drinks afterwards.

But, that's just my opinion. I hate dilemas about shows. It is hard to decide, especially since you don't know the set-up of the stage.

Either way, enjoy the show!

Because I'm signed up for junk email from the local radio station I had a chance to buy S&G tickets before they went on sale to the public. I tried unsuccessfully for 4 days to purchase tickets, but the website kept fucking up. I finally got desperate and called ticketmaster, but they pretty much told me to fuck off and I could only get the presale tickets via web. I had given all the presale info to Pedro to buy tickets for his parents and he bought great seats for them. I got no seats as they promptly sold out once they went on sale. Wherever you sit, be glad you went. Hope you had fun, since I'm going to have to live vicariously through you. ;P

Did you get my phone call?

I'm sorry you couldn't get tickets. That rots. I ended up sitting in the $5 seats and selling my two $52 tickets for a combined discount price of $70. Not too shabby. I wish you could have come with!

If you can't make out the song I left on your voicemail, it's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters."

I did get the phone call. It kept cutting out, but I was able to make out the song. Thank you. =)

The guy I sold the tickets to said that it's easiest to get cheaper tickets for sold out shows....maybe he just meant in Ohio and not in NY....and I heard that you had been burned at buying tickets from someone before.....but if the NY show is anything like this one, there will be tons of tickets outside....and the prices not so high.....just a thought. And the people who bought the tickets from us asked me if they were genuine and then asked if we were going in so that they could make sure they were genuine when we got inside....

Yeah, after the $65 I spent to not see Madonna I've thrown in the towel on scalping. =) My strategy right now is to hound Ticketmaster enough for their F'd up website that they will offer me tickets. So far it's not working.

You may want to try ebay....if I remember correctly - they can't sell the tickets above the face value in NY, NJ and CT - it's against some law there. You may have a better chance...and you can buy from someone who has a good rating at least.

Regardless - good luck.

eBay ticket sales don't count as scalped, I don't think - because the seller can put them down at face value (hence, not scalped) and then the OTHER people bid them up.

Thanks. =) I just got an email from ticketmaster customer support claiming that my browser was timing out and that's what my problem was. And they have put up a few obstructed view seats, but *gasp* I'm still getting the mysterious error message. But if I call their phone number there are NO tickets left and of course representatives are not taking calls. I hate ticketmaster. But I will check ebay. That's a good idea. Thanks!

Good grief!

The only tickets I heard about for the show out here were $460 each, and I thought that was CHEAP!

What the heck?

Maybe these weren't in the nosebleeds. Maybe they were row 16 or something.

But still. That's a serious amount of money. Wow.

And someone probably paid it.

Or the price'll go WAAAY down a few minutes before the show.

That's what happened to me. I sold my two tickets (value: $125) for $70 outside the building.

From: [identity profile] jeffholton.livejournal.com
I kinda wanted to go, but even $70 is too steep for me right now, I think.

I am treating myself to something occasionally, but we're backing off of the concerts for a while.

Maybe I'll take my [still somewhat hypothetical] son to a Simon and Garfunkel viewing someday and the Sunnyside Old Folks Repository. By then, I'll be able to afford it.

I think we'll be a little too young to be in the same home with them, but you never know. Their music WILL last for a few centuries at least, I'd think.

I meant when you and I were in the same nursing home, but I guess I was misunderstanding you from the get-go.

Oops.

SIMON & GARFUNKEL WILL NEVER DIE.

You set that up so blatantly for a slough of innuendos that I'm not even going to bite.

Too easy.
