Holy crap, I need to stay away from friendster. I just found my first ever crush. His name is Mike and I fell in mad crush with him in the fourth grade. I carried this crush for years and years and years. I think I gave up on him when I was sixteen or so. No joke. He is the reason I love skater boys. He is the reason I love artists. I still have the card he made me for my sixteenth birthday. I just sent him the stalkiest Friendster message. HAR HAR.

I should be sleeping. Instead, I'm looking up people from elementary school. SOMEBODY STOP ME!

Weird.

How are you looking up people on Friendster?
I can't find anyone who doesn't find me first.

I go to "user search" and start entering the first and last names of people I remember. (It works better for men, though, because a lot of women get married and change their names.) Then, if that person happens to be somewhere in my network, I can look at their profiles and see if I found them (usually by hometown, since they've aged quite a bit in photos). Then I send them a message!

So far, I've only come across 1 boy from high school, 1 boy from junior high, and 1 boy from elementary school.

I've toyed with the idea of putting up a web page to put up the names of missing friends like that--especially female friends, with the name change thing--so that when they go randomly searcing the web to see if their (old) name is a hit anywhere, they find the page.

Catch being, how to set it up in a way that actually draws responses, and other than from spam robots finding me email address/contact info on the page.

You could always do the cheap-n-easy way:
have all contact info be text-only (no linking!)
and spell out discrete elements such as:
"cfred(at)here(dot)net"
It may confuse some, but they need to learn anyway.

Interesting idea, but I don't know how you would work it out.

You need to get more rock stars on your friend list. My Personal Network is somewhere around 100,000 people. ;)
