Let me just come right out and say that I am absolutely LOVING chorus. I am having so much fun and now that I don't feel so awkward, I'm really loving the challenge. There are some amazing women there and I don't know them, but I'm going to get to and that is really great. It's such a supportive environment. I don't think I really realized that until today. Our director was talking about an event they had this past Saturday (that I skipped) that included our chorus and several groups of schoolgirls. She made some comment about the differences posed by pairing groups of girls who have all come together with certain talent with groups of women who all come together bringing life experience, and it felt really empowering to me. This isn't about being the best, or even being great - it's about being women together. How uplifting!

Anyway, I'm starting to tackle the beast that is "Comin' Into My Years," though I'm still totally lost on "And Ain't I a Woman?". However, I actually heard the last 12 measures of the song for the first time, so at least I'm not totally in the dark. We also got two new pieces of music today, one called (I think) "Danku" which is a really energetic West African song about conception and pregnancy, and "I Hope You Dance" (you know, that country song). BUT (and this really is the best part), we went over two songs that the rest of the chorus already knows. Okay, /that/ wasn't the best part. The best part is that it is a lesbian love song AND the altos have the lead! It's such a beautiful song, and I don't know it AT ALL, but I was so freaking happy that I am going to get to go to a big chorus recital in front of lots of people, and sing a lesbian freaking love song with a bazillion women.

I am SO EFFING GLAD I did this. Mad props to prettyvacantoneBrandie and calledmaraDaina for doing this with me. It was just the kick in the pants I needed, and it's been really great for my soul and for getting my mind working again. I'm so happy about it that you'll have to /chisel/ the smile off my face.

p.s. [livejournal.com profile] pica_nc, I'm going to reply to your email, but not tonight as I'm too wiped and too distracted to do it justice. However, I forwarded it to Jennifer so she can reply as well. <3

p.p.s. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] lickingtoad and his groovy twin, Laura. :)
