Okay, so I was going to try to go to Pittsburgh on the 20th to catch the Meltons' party, and see Rachel at the same time, but I'm just not sure if I'm up to it. After being sick all this weekend, and being in NYC next weekend, I'm not sure I can handle another weekend of travelling when I have to do all the last minute holiday stuff. I'll have to talk it over with kieronThe Boss. La la la. I think I wrote 70 holiday cards this weekend, and my hand's about to fall off. My brother came up with the good idea of making a donation to a charity in lieu of a gift for my aunt and uncle ('cause what the heck would I get them, anyway?), but I'm having difficulties deciding on a charity. They're pretty conservative. I was thinking the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, but they live in MA, not OH. Who knows? La la la. Jennifer and I went to try to get a tree tonight, but we got there at 7:15 and the place closed at 7. BASTARDS! Didn't they know it was the first time I had left the house all weekend?

Today was difficult. Neither of us are particularly good sick people, and I am just plain overtired. I can't sleep when I can't breathe, so I haven't really slept since Thursday night. Ugh. Hopefully that will not be the case tomorrow, as I have to go to work, and I told Coworker Sarah I would pick up a newborn at the hospital and bring her to her foster home. (I really would just rather bring her to MY home, she is so gorgeous.) I have to do eight tons of paperwork and make some phone calls. It's a short week for me, since I'm off Friday for NYC. Yippee!

I am going to spend 87679267694650947487 dollars on the holiday season and give myself massive money anxiety. Just you watch.

I hope you feel better *hug*

No worries if you don't make it to Pittsburgh, but it would be great if you did come!

I'd personally recommend visiting another weekend, instead of the party; we could spend more time paying attention to you, instead of other guests and party foo.

We would of course love to see you and be happy to offer you the hospitality of our home, though.

How about that day center that [livejournal.com profile] being_homeless goes to? It's in Bawstun.

Well, my aunt and uncle live outside of Worcester. Is this a really well-known place?

If you want to go with the Foodbank idea, there's the Greater Boston food bank. I'm sure there's other all over MA. You can always go with something super safe like the American Cancer Society or Special Olympics.

I've done the charity donation in lieu of a gift thing for my grandparents the last few years, and they /really/ like it.

Oh, yeah, Special Olympics is a really good idea.

You so smart.

re: donation
I would suggest this place: http://www.thehome.org/site/content/index.asp

It is called the Home for Little Wanderers. Kind of a private non-profit homeless shelter/foster care sort of program (as far as I understand). I believe it was either founded by, or is currently run by a gay man, and they do a lot of work with queer youth.

I saw the founder or "manager" (I don't remember which) at a conference and he seemed super super cool. Plus, ya know, at risk kids is something even a conservative could go for ;) Plus, you'll secretly be helping gay youth. What could be better!

ok I read up some more on the website. They deal with all sorts of at risk youth, and they have numerous homes for them. Many of them are for adolescents with mental illness and such, but one of the homes is for GLBT youth ages 14-18. That is the house that the dude I saw speak runs.

HA HA HA - do you know the Home for Little Wanderers called me about a job when I was originally going to move to Boston in 2002? Hee. They were opening a group home specifically for queer youth, and they wanted me to help them do it!

I was kicking myself for deciding to stay in Columbus right about then, let me tell you.

Good idea!

you could donate some of the money to Massacusetts Arts for the Schools. they need it wicked bad

Can you tell me more about it, or is there a website?

here is a website that might be somewhat of use.

but basically, what's happened is the fucking governor has cut budgeting for schools by over half in the past year or so, thus unemploying a lot of schools in Massacusetts. Somerville is just one of them that i could find a link for. but you could certainly do a search via Massacusetts Education. they fired a lot of their teachers because of this. it's really sick.

(& you are aware that most art budgets include a lot of gay/lesbian clubs as well.)

I arrive in town on the night of the 20th. But I have a family shin-dig to go to.

It would have been cool to meet up and stuff.
