Once upon a time, in the year 1994 and in the land of college, Our Heroine spent a summer living in LaGrange, Georgia, which is a tiny podunk town near the Georgia-Alabama border (but the cats are nice!). While in LaGrange, she needed a ride to a party in North Carolina, because her ride dashed up to Connecticut to be with her boyfriend. Trout said, 'Don't worry, metalface, I will find you a ride!'

Trout volunteered his two friends, Jost and Black_Dougal, to pick Our Heroine up in LaGrange and bring her to Raleigh-Durham. Jude thought idly, 'I wonder if the boys who pick me up will be cute?' She asked her trusty friend Byron if they were safe. He assured that they were, and that he wouldn't let her get in a car with people he didn't know personally.

The boys knocked on the door. Jude smiled. There was this totally cute boy with a sweet as honey, smoothly subtle Southern drawl at her front door! They sat in the living room, the three of them, to chat before the trip. Jost, the cutie, said, 'Is that a Claddaugh ring you're wearing? Let me see how you're wearing it.' Can you say, 'swoon?'

They began their trip, and Our Superman wanted this boy. Oh yes. She was determined to have this boy. She worked all of her crazy wiles, and they hooked up on and off all weekend, and it was great. She especially liked the part where she slept in one hotel bed, and Dougal in the other, and Jost was in the shower - where would he sleep? He picked the right place! Linger said, 'Midge, you take this boy back to my place right now. RIGHT NOW.' Yes ma'am.

Our dear girl was completely smitten with this boy, but she went back to New York and he stayed in Alabama and they hardly talked. And when they did, it was wistful. Then she got together with A., and Jost got a girlfriend. They saw each other a year later and DID. NOT. CHEAT. Though both admitted it was the first time either had considered cheating. But they were not those kinds of people. They're good people. They even had to change in the same room, when they ended up in the pool with their clothes on, but stayed back to back and didn't turn around. Ever.

Fast forward, 2001 - Jost and Our Heroine are still good friends, though they haven't seen each other since the summer of 1999, and then only briefly, when they were both on the Cape. They maintain sporadic contact. Today, Christina let our girl know that Jost had been dumped by his fiancee, and he was heartbroken. Crying. So sad.

The poor dear. Please keep him in your thoughts. He is very sensitive and sweet and this is very hard for him. Our Heroine put on her bright red cape, got him on the phone, and got him to laugh. A lot. Loudly.

The verdict? "You're terrific, honey. I really just needed some smurfiness today. Thank you."

I win. I make people smile. And that, my friends, is what life is about.

You're a wonderful friend. We are all lucky to have you as our friend. Jost is very very lucky to have you as his friend.

We love you back, babe.

I feel like I'm posting a "me too," but it's all true.

I have met Jost, and he is Good People. I count myself very lucky to have him as a friend, as do you, I'm sure.

And we are all very lucky to have you as a friend. You are the smurfiest!

*hugs to the both of you*

weeeeeell...I dunno...sleeping with Dougal wasn't that bad....

except that, as Jost said...he and I were at a Lag Day, and someone said to him and said 'So how is Dougal doing?' and her turned to me, gave me a look of shared commiseration, looked at the asker, and said 'Dougal is dead to us now.'

the best job I've ever had was the one I had where, 2 months after getting there, I got them to hire Jost, and if I leaned waaaaaay back in my chair, I could see him. For a year we saw each other daily, and it was just marvellous. He was wonderful to me in the year that racked up, basically, as 'let's let Stephanie get dumped hard by 4 men.' He is almost as good as a girlfriend for mocking ex-boyfriends.

And he hugs goods.

And he *is* terribly easy on the eyes.

And he *is* terribly easy on the eyes.

Oh he is. Without a doubt. And the voice. My goodness.

Talking to him was, as you have said before, like being hugged. Continuously. Nice.

(But yeah, god, whatever happened to Dougal?)

short story is, after years of being alone, pining for the woman who dumped him at the altar, he finally started dating again (me), and the woman who dumped him at said altar heard of this, and suddenly decided 'well, since you're dating, we can be friends.' then made a play for him when we went through our first weak patch. He dumped me (hard) for her, by cheating on me with her, and Jost refuses to speak to him anymore (though it wasn't the cheating, or me, as much as that he got back together with someone who had so intentionally tried to emotionally destroy him. She wasn't happy to just leave him, 'sorry, I can't marry you, it's me.', she really tried to hurt him, and when he finally had a chance to move on, he chose not to.)

Gah.

Post a /picture/ of this Jost fellow, for the gods' sakes! And a soundbyte!

I'm /such/ a sucker for a slow southern drawl...

I don't know that I /have/ a photo to post. Or a soundbyte. But oh did I get a good hour and a half of that sweet Southern-boy charm. :)

Way back up top, you said:

when they ended up in the pool with their clothes on

So I said, "What the hey, let's see what pics I have of Jost to sling at the smurfchick?"

You'll never guess. (Well, except for smurfchick, who will have the picture in her mailbox in 20 minutes or less. *grin*)

You have the picture that Steve so lovingly entitled:

D'Arcy and Jost Walk on Water

I LOVE that photo. Thank you, dear. I'll see about getting it up somewhere. :)

Glad to be of service.

I have some more photos of him, including Jost's Brazilian Soccer Team Trading Card. However, they seem to all be chez mes parents and did not make the trip, so I can't scan them quite now.

However, as soon as I can lay hands on them, I will pass them on.

Rock on. I love pictures. I have a goofy webcam picture of the Jost, but there are other people in it too, one of whom I don't like at all.

So.

Yeah, I kinda keep my photo albums verbatim too. So there are pictures of probably just about everybody scattered throughout mine.

Of course, I also have Photoshop, and I'm not afraid to use it! (I'd say "And I know how to use it," but somebody who's been posting in these threads taught me most of what I know about it, and she can Gaussian blur circles around me. :) )

LaGrange is the most god-awful town I have visted in a LONG time. The town basically consists of a Milliken Carpet office complex and a gas station.

I had a meeting in LaGrange, and we just headed in that general direction, confident that once we got close, it'd be impossible to miss the Milliken Offices.

But I have to say, if I was ever going to buy a HUGE plot of land and raise horses and just chill out, that is the PERFECT spot to do so. Or maybe western Maryland.

Anyways....

Noooo!

LaGrange also has a bowling alley and a movie theatre. I worked at the movie theatre. Lorac and I. We were dirt poor, so we ate popcorn for lunch. Daily.

(Kristofer, if you're reading this, I'M SORRY! I ATE MOVIE FOOD THEN, TOO!)

Don't forget LaGrange College. It fed my internet addiction for an entire summer. :)

so shut , shut your mouth
cause I'm not listening anyhow
i've had enough, enough of you
enough to last a life time through
so what do you want of me?
got no words of sympathy and if i go around with you
you know that i'll get messed up too with you

Somehow that doesn't seem appropriate. =)

This posting has charm for the simple reason that i actually miss lagrange right now (i am doing an internship at Disney World) and the bowling alley closed like four years ago- the movie theatre smells like piss- and there is more then one gas station and miliken- i have lived there for four years and have no clue where miliken is

Hee hee! You rock. Sad about the bowling alley, though - it was the only fun thing since I worked at the movies and therefore, didn't want to go on time off.

You'll come back to LaGrange soon?

I go back to LaGrange in Jan- I have signed up for 7 months and 3 weeks of tourist hell, have been here since may- so why exactly were you in lagrange- ever- i mean it is like you say a worthless podunk

Hee. A friend of mine was from there, and she was getting ready to get married. I didn't have any summer plans, and she wanted help doing wedding stuff, and there you have it.

I was 18, cut me some slack. :)

I cut you lots of slack- I also got sucked into that hole of a town when I was 18- they have the second best theatre departement in the state of Georgia- kind of scares me about the state of Georgia theatre- only four months of that town and I am out- oh how i count down the days!

Ha ha ha! That's kind of funny. I really had absolutely no idea at all what programs were any good at LGC. I just know that if I went into their teeny tiny library, I could use the internet. Aaah, the memories.

And as scary as it sounds, the summer I spent in LaGrange was one of the best ones I had. I haven't really been able to spend a solid summer with my friend Carrie in years and years and years. And heck, I miss sweet tea!

And yes, that doesn't say a heck of a lot about Georgia theatre, does it? :)
