And my words are paper tigers...
Aug. 29th, 2001 02:13 pmOnce upon a time, in the year 1994 and in the land of college, Our Heroine spent a summer living in LaGrange, Georgia, which is a tiny podunk town near the Georgia-Alabama border (but the cats are nice!). While in LaGrange, she needed a ride to a party in North Carolina, because her ride dashed up to Connecticut to be with her boyfriend. Trout said, 'Don't worry, metalface, I will find you a ride!'
Trout volunteered his two friends, Jost and Black_Dougal, to pick Our Heroine up in LaGrange and bring her to Raleigh-Durham. Jude thought idly, 'I wonder if the boys who pick me up will be cute?' She asked her trusty friend Byron if they were safe. He assured that they were, and that he wouldn't let her get in a car with people he didn't know personally.
The boys knocked on the door. Jude smiled. There was this totally cute boy with a sweet as honey, smoothly subtle Southern drawl at her front door! They sat in the living room, the three of them, to chat before the trip. Jost, the cutie, said, 'Is that a Claddaugh ring you're wearing? Let me see how you're wearing it.' Can you say, 'swoon?'
They began their trip, and Our Superman wanted this boy. Oh yes. She was determined to have this boy. She worked all of her crazy wiles, and they hooked up on and off all weekend, and it was great. She especially liked the part where she slept in one hotel bed, and Dougal in the other, and Jost was in the shower - where would he sleep? He picked the right place! Linger said, 'Midge, you take this boy back to my place right now. RIGHT NOW.' Yes ma'am.
Our dear girl was completely smitten with this boy, but she went back to New York and he stayed in Alabama and they hardly talked. And when they did, it was wistful. Then she got together with A., and Jost got a girlfriend. They saw each other a year later and DID. NOT. CHEAT. Though both admitted it was the first time either had considered cheating. But they were not those kinds of people. They're good people. They even had to change in the same room, when they ended up in the pool with their clothes on, but stayed back to back and didn't turn around. Ever.
Fast forward, 2001 - Jost and Our Heroine are still good friends, though they haven't seen each other since the summer of 1999, and then only briefly, when they were both on the Cape. They maintain sporadic contact. Today, Christina let our girl know that Jost had been dumped by his fiancee, and he was heartbroken. Crying. So sad.
The poor dear. Please keep him in your thoughts. He is very sensitive and sweet and this is very hard for him. Our Heroine put on her bright red cape, got him on the phone, and got him to laugh. A lot. Loudly.
The verdict? "You're terrific, honey. I really just needed some smurfiness today. Thank you."
I win. I make people smile. And that, my friends, is what life is about.

Date: 2001-08-29 01:36 pm (UTC)except that, as Jost said...he and I were at a Lag Day, and someone said to him and said 'So how is Dougal doing?' and her turned to me, gave me a look of shared commiseration, looked at the asker, and said 'Dougal is dead to us now.'
the best job I've ever had was the one I had where, 2 months after getting there, I got them to hire Jost, and if I leaned waaaaaay back in my chair, I could see him. For a year we saw each other daily, and it was just marvellous. He was wonderful to me in the year that racked up, basically, as 'let's let Stephanie get dumped hard by 4 men.' He is almost as good as a girlfriend for mocking ex-boyfriends.
And he hugs goods.
And he *is* terribly easy on the eyes.

Date: 2001-08-29 02:20 pm (UTC)Oh he is. Without a doubt. And the voice. My goodness.
Talking to him was, as you have said before, like being hugged. Continuously. Nice.
(But yeah, god, whatever happened to Dougal?)

Date: 2001-08-29 09:25 pm (UTC)So I said, "What the hey, let's see what pics I have of Jost to sling at the smurfchick?"
You'll never guess. (Well, except for smurfchick, who will have the picture in her mailbox in 20 minutes or less. *grin*)

I LOVE that photo. Thank you, dear. I'll see about getting it up somewhere. :)
Re: Hee.
Date: 2001-08-30 09:27 am (UTC)I have some more photos of him, including Jost's Brazilian Soccer Team Trading Card. However, they seem to all be chez mes parents and did not make the trip, so I can't scan them quite now.
However, as soon as I can lay hands on them, I will pass them on.

Re: Hee.
Date: 2001-08-30 07:22 pm (UTC)Of course, I also have Photoshop, and I'm not afraid to use it! (I'd say "And I know how to use it," but somebody who's been posting in these threads taught me most of what I know about it, and she can Gaussian blur circles around me. :) )

Date: 2001-08-30 06:47 am (UTC)I had a meeting in LaGrange, and we just headed in that general direction, confident that once we got close, it'd be impossible to miss the Milliken Offices.
But I have to say, if I was ever going to buy a HUGE plot of land and raise horses and just chill out, that is the PERFECT spot to do so. Or maybe western Maryland.
Anyways....
Noooo!
Date: 2001-08-30 07:23 am (UTC)(Kristofer, if you're reading this, I'M SORRY! I ATE MOVIE FOOD THEN, TOO!)
Don't forget LaGrange College. It fed my internet addiction for an entire summer. :)
"Crash" ???
Date: 2001-08-30 12:16 pm (UTC)cause I'm not listening anyhow
i've had enough, enough of you
enough to last a life time through
so what do you want of me?
got no words of sympathy and if i go around with you
you know that i'll get messed up too with you
Somehow that doesn't seem appropriate. =)

Date: 2001-09-01 07:10 am (UTC)And as scary as it sounds, the summer I spent in LaGrange was one of the best ones I had. I haven't really been able to spend a solid summer with my friend Carrie in years and years and years. And heck, I miss sweet tea!
And yes, that doesn't say a heck of a lot about Georgia theatre, does it? :)
