Last night, my Jennifer and I went to see Big Fish with
pattisimmons and
elspazz0. It was a wonderfully magical movie and I loved it, though I wish I hadn't been exhausted because I could have paid better attention. We came home and Jennifer discovered that a cat (or cats) had peed all over her computer desk, soaking lots of papers, and getting into the wood because her computer desk is unfinished. So she threw all of the papers away and I sprayed the crap out of the desk with some of that citrusy cleaner, hoping that the orange smell would soak in and eliminate the pee smell.
This morning Jen decided she would clean out the back bedroom, and she's been working hard. She recently discovered that a cat (or cats) peed /and/ pooped on the spare futon, on the quilt that
rizzo41 made for me, on some clothes. The quilt has since been washed, and is fine, but still.
I don't know what else to do. I'm at my wits' end over this. I don't think it's at all possible for these two cats to live in the same house. I just don't think it is. The only thing that's worked so far was locking Grendel in the back bedroom 24/7, but that's not good for her. The whole cat piss thing is really putting a damper on what should be a relaxing Saturday.

Date: 2004-01-10 10:35 am (UTC)Have you tried bac-out? It's actually beneficial enzymes that get cat smell out of practically anything. I don't know if it would work on wood, but it might. You can usually find it at natural food stores, it's made by a company called Bio-Kleen, and it smells like limes.

Neither of us wants to get rid of a cat, but I really just don't think they're ever going to be able to live in the same house without a) killing each other or b) covering the entire abode in urine.

Date: 2004-01-10 10:38 am (UTC)Have you tried Nature's Miracle for Cats? It is expensive but it *really* works. When my cat was having cystitis problems I used so much of that stuff it was beyond reckoning. Also, there is a product called Fel-away that you can get from your vet which is a little spray of cat pheromones that you can spray around your house. It really works too. After I used it I never had problems again.

Date: 2004-01-10 10:53 am (UTC)The problem is that the behavior between Grendel and Ralph is /really/ excessive. I mean, they totally seek each other out to terrorize the other. Ralph will go looking for Grendel so she can attack her. And Grendel will growl and hiss at Ralph when she's nowhere near her. I'd hoped that getting Grendel fixed would chill her out a little, but it hasn't happened. Le sigh.
Jen's SIL said the Fel-away thing that you plug in like a Glade Plug-In was like $50. Where do you get it?

Date: 2004-01-10 11:54 am (UTC)Why don't you just take the cats to a Chevy dealership?
A good piss is a terrible thing to waste.

Date: 2004-01-11 04:09 pm (UTC)Anywhere a cat has peed, put a food bowl. After a few days they will associate that place with eating and will not go there anymore.
Additionally, sometimes that sort of behavior indicates a bladder infection.

Date: 2004-01-11 04:15 pm (UTC)However, I know for a fact (not that this isn't good advice, I just know it's not true in my case) that the cats don't have bladder infections, because they pee in the litter box just fine unless they get in a fight! :)
Love you.
