I said it four years ago, and I'll say it again:

RALPH NADER IS AN ARROGANT PRICK, AND I HATE HIM.

Thank you, drive through.

Well, most of the progressives I know realize that voting for him will be counterproductive this time. But we'll see.

The Passion of The Christ (http://www.ThePassionOfTheChrist.com) is in theaters soon - this week on Wednesday.. what do you think about this movie? I'm going to see it for sure - the trailers (http://www.thepassion.tv) were enough to convince me. I read somewhere that it's the widest opening ever for a subtitled movie; I have a feeling subtitles won't detract from the full effect of this movie though. After looking at the trailers which have no subtitles or english at all, it was reinforced for me that lack of spoken english in this film won't hurt one bit. To sum up my impression of The Passion: it's a work of art.
Good Website (http://www.passion-movie.com)
Another fascinating aspect to this movie is all the controversy that has been generated about it.
Some people, not really representative of Jewish people, but rather self appointed Jewish spokespeople, such as Abraham Foxman from the Anti-Defamation League, seem to have been attempting to denounce this film for months as being anti-Semitic. The news reported that they even stole the script last year! But here's what some Jews say (Jews who don't make it their job to tear apart other people): by Rabbi Daniel Lapin.

Nice to see some people speaking rationally.

So what do you think of all this?

Are you related to "Natasha"? Because she said just about the exact same thing in my journal! Given the similarity and anonimity of both your posts, and the hundreds of others surely cluttering up journals around the net, we must clearly conclude that the Jesus flick turns people into an anonymous posting hive-mind. We better wear tin hats while seeing it in order to stave off its mentalness!

We have to be careful though - I hear God throws lightning at this movie.

He is, but as I was saying to a friend yesterday, I think he catches a lot more flak than he deserves. People are angry at him because he ran his campaign on the basis that two-party politics do not grant people enough choices, and that due to their embroilment in special interests, Bush and Gore were basically the same candidate. And I still think he might have been right, had the events of September 11 never transpired, because there would have been nothing around which Bush's conservative old boy cabinet could have galvanized. Unfortunately for all of us, it did, and his words blew up in his face, and now we all hate him-- not necessarily because he was entirely wrong, but because of circumstance.

Don't get me wrong. I think he's an arrogant bastard, and I did even during the last election period, when I voted for him. But I still generally agree with a lot of Green Party viewpoints and ideals, and if not for the desperate need to get Bush out of office, I might have voted for him again.

I believe he's running as an independent this time.

He is. I would think he'd see his need to run independently as a sign of impending doom. No party's going to back him in this election. But among other things, he's apparently tactless and oblivious.

I don't dislike the Green Party, though I wish they hadn't chosen Nader as their spokesperson in 2000. I really just can't believe that Nader ran with the Greens for unselfish reasons. He preached about needing to get away from the two-party system, and he preached about how the Democrats and the Republicans were the same, and he mobilized a /lot/ of idealistic, hardworking young people to back him.

And when he didn't get enough of a percentage to get the Greens going, he chuckled his smarmy chuckle and admitted to his adoring fans who worked /so/ /damned/ /hard/ for him that the percentage didn't matter, he just wanted to throw a monkeywrench into the election.

I don't like people who prey on young people's ideals and use their energy for harm. Regardless of September 11, the Bush presidency would have been different than the Gore presidency. Just having a Republican president over a Republican congress, regardless of who that Republican is, makes a tremendous difference.

I don't disagree with you. Hell, I hated him even then. I would rather that any of the other Green Party candidates been nominated. Or Nader's running mate. Winona LaDuke for President in 2008! =P

I just think that he and his supporters are often credited with causing Bush to win the election, when in reality there are far more factors to the election's outcome than that. There's the whole Florida debacle, the fact that Gore really didn't differentiate himself enough from Bush to gain the faith of those who might have voted for him rather than for Nader-- hell, there's the fact of those who voted for Bush. I think that his campaign probably did dupe a lot of people, but that too many people a)single him out among a multitude of factors, b)view the outcome as proof that a multi-party system could never work in the United States. And I don't agree with either point.

I've forgiven anyone who may have mistakenly voted for him in 2000, as long as they promise not to do it again.

Well, this time I am certainly forced to vote for anyone who isn't Bush who has a good chance of being elected. Unfortunately this is not very likely to be Mr. Nader. ;-)

I don't hate Ralph Nader, I deeply respect his history of selfless, nonpartisan activism on behalf of peace and justice. I don't think there are many living Americans who have done that much, for that many causes.

That being said, I think it's a very poor choice of his to run for president in 2004. There are much more worthwhile things he could be doing.

Date: 2004-02-23 02:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
See, I just don't believe that his activism is so unselfish. I think he has an agenda, and his agenda is Ralph Nader.

That's not to say I think he has no good ideas or admirable qualities. He's a smart man, for the most part, and has valiant goals. But he's stupid for continuing to preach a lack of difference between the two parties, and the message that neither presidential choice in 2000 would have made a difference.

Hi!

I'm okay - I miss her, of course, especially because today is a weekend day and that's usually prime Jen time, but I've been keeping busy. Which reminds me, I need to go get the rest of the laundry. Whee!

How are YOU? Thanks for thinking of me.

Jen is going to miss Survivor, too. I will tape it for her, and being the good girlfriend that I am, I won't even watch it until she comes back (which will KILL me).

I'm sorry you'll be away for work, that sucks and we will miss you. I'll try not to hit on Carlos Carlos too badly while you're away!
