My Jennifer and I finally got around to finish watching Frida. I don't know how many of you saw it, but I /loved/ it. Not only was it visually beautiful, but I think I shall sleep tonight lusting after Salma Hayek with short hair and suit pants. Good golly but that woman is fine. And she looked simply lucious wrapped around that muscular nakie chick. Yum.
Erm. *wipes drool* Seriously, though, I loved the movie. I wish I had seen it in the theatre. I'd wanted to, but hadn't gotten around to it. I highly recommend it. The little animated bits sprinkled here and there throughout the movie really enhanced it, I think, and I don't usually like gimmicks like that. I want to own it.
What did you guys think of it?

Date: 2004-03-10 05:32 am (UTC)That's kind of how I felt when I watched Frida. I was fascinated by it, utterly mesmorized by the colors and shapes and nuances of story-telling. I wasn't expecting to love it quite as much as I did, but I felt so -- this is strange -- rested after seeing it, as if my mind had been on a great vacation.

Date: 2004-03-10 07:00 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about the vacation. It was like time sort of dissipated for two hours, like I blinked once, and the movie was gone.
I loved it.

Date: 2004-03-11 12:11 am (UTC)b) Tangential Frida tale -- here at the U are the Iowa Women's Archives, one of only two archives in the U.S. dedicated solely to collecting and preserving women's history. The whole thing got off the ground when Louise Noun, an elder, female politician in the state, sold one of her Frida paintings (a self-portrait) to get the money to establish the IWA foundation. When you walk into the archives, one of the first things you see is a framed poster of the painting that was sold to make the archives happen. I love that little story.
