My brother introduced me to the Indigo Girls when I was 14 years old. He handed me a copy of their self-titled album and I instantly fell in love. I have probably listened to that album 43769324658746509174852 times. Heck, I've owned it for over half my life! And of course at the concert last night they played "Closer to Fine," because they always do, but they also played "Kid Fears," always a favorite since Michael Stipe was in it. <3 REM <3

Replace the rent with the stars above
Replace the need with love
Replace the anger with the tide
Replace the ones, the ones, the ones that you love

Last night Shawn "Rockabye" Mullins (you know, the "kind of like Nashville with a tan" guy) dueted with them, which was not nearly as good as my sekrit luver Michael. However, I had an epiphany.

Are you on fire from the years?
What would you give for your kid fears?

*facepalm* I get it now.

Somehow, I think it's /supposed/ to make sense to me around this point in my life. Half my life ago, it just didn't make any sense. Now I feel like it most accurately explains the malaise I've been bordering on for the last half-year or so. Wow.

Their work has always been able to speak to me when other things didn't. The cd Rites of Passage is a soundtrack for a certain time in my life. And they are so, so very good live. I saw them at Red Rocks here in Denver. It was my first Red Rocks show, and the first time I saw them. It was incredible. Well, once I quit pointing to the rocks and telling Jan 'SEE! That's where Bono climbed!'.

I want to see them outside - I think that would be even better. Outdoor concerts are always the absolute best! I've seen them a whole bunch of times, but always indoors.

There is something about their lyrics that make them so relate-able. I was listening to an interview with them, and Amy Ray was saying that it was a definite talent of Emily Saliers's to be able to write that one line that everyone will click with and want to sing along. Personally, I think they both have it.

i wish Shawn Mullins would still put out cds and stop milking his one minute of fame for what it's worth. he had a great folk career before Columbia ate him.

I wasn't terribly taken with him (either on the radio or at this concert), but then again, I have a hard time getting into boy folk (sorry!). He was a cutie, though, and seems to really like playing.

I really dig Shawn Mullins, I saw him at some cheapo concert at Golden Gate Park a few years ago and ran out and bought a cd. I had actually gone to see Michelle Shocked but I ended up liking him and Great Big Sea (Newfoundland Celtic drinking band o fun) much more.

Don't like that lullabye song much though

Yeah, I'd imagine he's a whole different drink of water since acquiring a major record label. I wish I'd seen him "before," instead of "after."

Poot.

Sighhhh...I wanted to go up to Columbus, but I couldn't afford the personal day. Don't hate me when I tell you why...

I'm going to Atlanta next week to see them w/ the Atlanta Ballet!!! I cannot wait! :)

There's some tickets for sale on the BBS, if you wanna throw caution (well, a lot of money) to the wind and go.

I did see the Girls in Pittsburgh on Monday. My view was blocked by a bunch of drunk soroity girls...so I stood up so I could see.

You're right about "Kid Fears," or at least I think you are :)

I will come see you before you leave Columbus. We'll have to talk about when.

We will have to definitely pick a time, and for us to go back to Pittsburgh to see you guys and your cats and eat delicious crepes! :)

I am jealous for you, but I know you will love it and I will live vicariously through you. Unfortunately, all extraneous spending is on hold so we're in better shape for the crazy move.

That is so awesome that you are going. It is going to be amazing. And you can tell us all about it when you come visit!
