This is what democracy looks like!

We didn't take many pictures. But you can see them all HERE.

All ages and walks of life. Wow. Wish I could have gone. I was moved just watching and listening on cspan. I can't imagine what it was like to be there.

I love the picture of the little girl. And the picture you posted of the woman with the sign "it's about control"....she has this look on her face as she's listening like "I've seen it all."

And of course we got the fun sticking out the tongue shots of everyone in your album. It wouldn't be Jude pics without 'em. :)

Glad you had such a great time! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

You can't see it in the photo, but the little girl is wearing a tshirt that reads: Keep your rosaries off my ovaries. :) I was so struck by the generational aspect of the march - so many women brought their daughters, there were so many families with little children, and there was this family with "three generations of feminists": grandmother, mother, and daughter. Awesome.

I was blown away by the number of older people at the march - it really warmed my heart and made me feel so much hope. Similarly, I was excited to see so many young people. Maybe there's hope for this country yet!!

I love the sign that says "only my Bush belongs in my panties." Hahahaha! That's the best ever.

Do you know the story about the Washington monument -- about why it changes color 1/3 of the way up? It's 'cause they started to build it before the Civil War, ran out of money when the war broke out, started again when the war was done, but by then the stone was a different color. That's right, ladies and gents -- the Nation's Penis . . . and they couldn't get it up.

Great photos! I love getting to see your perspective on the day.

You're right, that is one of the funniest sign slogans I've seen in a LONG time. LOVE creative protesters!

Wow, I didn't know that about the Washington Monument - that's a cool little piece of trivia! Ha ha ha!

Someday I will decompress enough to be able to write about the experience. I'm still formulating the words.

Activism is a cool, cool thing.

that was the first thing that occured to me, too. It was my brain going "Well, then, Democracy is FOXXXXY." in a blaxploitation, "But I'm talkin' bout *Shaft*" sort of voice.

But we all know Democracy (and Justice) are both girls. Girls whose breasts Ashcroft will not keep covered for much longer!

Your pictures are SO Much better than mine! Can I borrow some of them? (More to the point, can I print some of them in our next newsletter, with credit to the lovely photographer? :) )

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Yes, you can take any photos you want. :) But how will we know if it's a Jude-pic or a Jen-pic?

Date: 2004-04-27 05:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] michael622.livejournal.com
Hmm. Perhaps I should say, "Photographs taken by either JUDE or JEN, I don't know which, but since they are both so KICK-ASS I suppose it doesn't matter?"

Hehehe. I don't know. Do you know which are taken by you and which are taken by her? Obviously the ones in which I can see you (or your back!) are taken by Jen, and vicey-versey for the ones where I can see Jen, but ... OW! My head ...

For the most part, I know who took what pictures. But I'll gladly take the credit for any of hers. ;)

I don't know her. It was a crowd shot. Sorry I can't help!

I mean the second picture on the linked site, not the second picture in the post. Unless you like taking pictures of three random strangers with their arms around each other (not that there's anything wrong with that...)

Oh. That middle girl is Ali. (Ally? Allie?) She was [livejournal.com profile] cappucinogrrl's friend who goes to American University, I think.

woo woo WOO! GO YOU :D

Please tell me the room was okay. Did they give you any nonsense?

Date: 2004-04-27 10:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

1. No nonsense. I gave them J's name and my name was tacked on in their system right along with it. The only weird nonsense was when some office guy called early Sunday morning and said that "our credit card was denied" and then when Jen told him it was paid on the internet he said, "Oops. I see that. I made a mistake. Sorry." Idiot.

2. The room was fine. The neighborhood the hotel was in was somewhat similar to the neighborhood I work in, and let's just say the other clientele weren't going to the March, if you know what I mean. Lots of church conferences and stuff like that. But the room was clean, there was a bathroom and clean sheets, and it was a convenient distance to the Metro station with lots of parking. So it was awesome and THANK YOU THANK YOU, and I got to be the only whitey white girl at the train station!

You know, part of me feels like I don't have the right to post here...but I'm going to anyway.

The pictures rock. I had a few friends head down from the Boston area -- they all said it RULED. We hope the hupla did something good...I think it did.

Okay. Back to my never-boring statistics project. Or, I could chew on some tin foil if you have some to spare...

p.s.
SEE YOU SOON!!! We still on for doing x on sat?

Of course you have every right to post here, silly! :) You are the best!

It was an amazing experience. I was blown away. I think I'm still blown away. There were over a million people there. I was one in a million!

As for Saturday, it depends how frickin' exhausted we are. We're driving 13 hours between Friday night and Saturday early afternoon, which doesn't leave a lot of time for sleeping. But we'll be in town until the 8th-ish, so we will catch up with you at LEAST once.

I'd like to say definitely for Saturday, as long as we don't feel like train wrecks.

From: [identity profile] volumeat11.livejournal.com
Welp, we've got saturday night reserved for the two of you. What, where, and when it totally up to you guys. I don't know if you're keen on doubling-back from when you've come...came...travelled, or if we should head somewhere and meet your exhausted bodies there...whatever's easiest for you two!

And we've got new cell phones. Not that that'll impact your thought process one way or the other; I'm just saying...

I need more coffee.

Okay - the dilly-o:

The wedding is at 2:00 with a cocktail reception to follow. I'm assuming this means it will not go over into the middle of the night, so we should be good to do some sort of minor hanging out.

I doubt we'll want to do much driving, though, so we'll have to chatty chat about that some more come tomorrow. TOMORROW!

See you soon, my lovely! *smak*
