judecorp: (coming home)

Somewhere near our new place is a church. I'm not sure exactly where, but I'm positive that there IS one (at least one), because I have been greeted with church bells every day at 10:00 AM. However, there have been church bells ringing almost all morning this morning, and it is glorious. The sky is sunny and clear, there is a breeze in the trees, and the temperature is a springy 71 degrees. The breeze carries the church bells through the green leaves tinged with sun, carries it through our screens and into our home. Sun is pouring in through the sky lights and glistening on the sheen of the buffed floors. What a magnificent home!

This all reminds me that I need to do some church-shopping when things calm down a bit. Since the UUA is headquartered here in Boston, I'd imagine we have a slew of UU churches to choose from out here. Maybe I'll post on [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n.

Hi!

You don't know me; I just wandered over from someone else's journal. I wanted to say that you're right, there are *lots* of UU churches around Boston. I don't know where you're living, of course, but I wanted to invite you, if you cared to visit, to my church. United First Parish, in Quincy, right across the street from Quincy Center subway station. I do the coffee hour, so I know I can offer you coffee, and as an added inducement, we have John Adams and John Quincy Adams entombed in our basement. (Coffee and dead people! How can we say no?)

If you'd like to visit, you're invited. :)

Thanks for the invitation, Leslie. How very sweet! :)

A bunch of my friends work in an office really close to your church. We walked by it the other day when we went out to lunch with them, and they made a point to tell me that the Adamses(eseses) are entombed there. Fascinating!

I think after Father's Day weekend we're going to begin "trying out" local UU churches. So far we're going to hit the Arlington Street Church (since it is BIG) and the JP Church. I'll add the Quincy church to the list too, since we're in Dorchester and that's pretty darned close. :)

Thanks!

Oooo! Where in Dorchester? (District, I mean, not the address -- I'm not going to come over and visit unnanounced). I live in Savin Hill; I can see the UMB library and the Globe building from my kitchen window.

Arlington Street's big, and it's sort of our Vatican. :) As I said, no pressure, just an invitation. If you do come, by the way, I'm the really big guy without the beard.

In any case, welcome to Boston!

STALKER!

You're trying to look in my windows, aren't you? It's not going to work!

Kidding. We live near the Shawmut T, in the "Ooh ooh ooh big gorgeous homes on Melville" district. When I lived here before, pre-Ohio, I lived in the Savin Hill area (but I guess more Jones Hill). I love Dorchester. I want to kiss it on the mouth!

Are you the ONLY really big guy without a beard? In the WHOLE WORLD??!?!

Why would I look in your windows? That's so passe. If I were to stalk, I think I'd try to subvert your cat. That's more of a challenge.

I know the area! Friend of mine used to live there. Some insane houses. I love nineteenth century architecture (Dorchester's a good place for it), and that street was obviously one of the rich ones. Maybe some day I'll get insanely rich, buy one, kick everyone out and restore it. Or get someone to design me an updated version; butler's pantry, turret follies and electricity piped right in!

No, no, I'm the big guy without the beard if you came to coffee hour at church. That's a much smaller venue than everywhere. The big guy with the beard is Paul. The really tall but skinny guy is Clyde. The tall chubby guy with the ratty moustache, holding the coffee server, is me.

If I were to try and be the biggest guy without a beard, anywhere, I'd have to eat a lot more, and find out how big the biggest guy is now so I knew what I had to beat. It's a lot easier to be a big guy in a small room. :)

I, too, would love to get quite rich and buy one of the wonderful huge homes in my neighborhood. But at least I /feel/ rich walking into one! :)

When I check out your church, I will definitely look for you!

Yeah, you may not have the servants, but you have the high ceilings, woodwork and airly, light rooms.

Not in any sort of a creepy way, but if you come by I'll look for you. And it's hard to miss me: I try to greet anyone new. I know how much I'd hate to go somewhere and not have anyone acknowledge me. :)

Yeah, I look kind of like this. Seriously. I'm always making dumb faces.

OK, I wasn't going to respond to this, because I didn't want to become annoying, but I have to say this.

So, I'm looking for a person who's makeing the Sign of the Goat at me? How cool is that?

:)

Oh, and, for scheduling's sake -- we're not there after next Sunday for a few weeks, and services in August are at 9:30.

Yikes - 9:30 is TEH EARLY.

But thanks for letting me know.

Yeah, 9:30 is early. I'm not sure if I'm gonna get there myself. But starting in September, we go back to 10:30, which is doable.

It might save time to mention that we have (as who doesn't in this madcap future?) a website -- UFPC.org.

Thanks for the link! (And 10:30 is much more my speed.)
