Last night and today I turned my job search into Aggressive Mode. This isn't to say I wasn't aggressive with my job search prior to last night; rather, I just hadn't quite warranted the Capital LettersTM. Last night I went to bostonworks.com (which I think I own stock in by now) and started changing my search criteria. Instead of simply searching for "social worker" (which brings up quite a few jobs), I then searched for "clinician" (same jobs) and eventually "nonprofit" (which brought out a whole host of different jobs, though most were not what I was looking for). I scoured idealist.org for any job postings they hadn't sent me (I have a search agent there, they send me at least 10 postings a day), and then hit up socialservice.com (which is largely useless). Last night I also sent information to about four staffing agencies for random office jobs to bring in money in the interim.

This morning I went through HotJobs at Yahoo! and ended up sending resumes to about four jobs I hadn't seen on any other site, including one that would be quite fun (which is probably JudeCode for "pays about $20K/year"). I then bit the big one and started scouring the MA Dept. of Social Services website for hints on people to contact about child welfare jobs. You see, I sent two resumes to DSS already, at least a month ago, with no word, so I was looking for someone "on the inside." The job postings for the Commonwealth don't give any contact names and are fielded through a larger organizational body. So I began poring the site for information. I eventually found an old .pdf announcement talking about how DSS was trying to recruit a more diversified staff, and there was a recruitment person's email address at the bottom. The poor woman received my probing email this morning, and now has her own personal copy of my resume and cover letter.

This means, of course, that desperation has brought me back to child welfare. I'm hoping that if I /do/ persue CPS employment in Massachusetts that the increased pay (state job = $$$) and benefits would offset some of the frustration and crankiness I would likely encounter in a job I don't terribly enjoy. Well, that and the idea that I would try to become a supervisor ASAP and get out of CPS casework forever and ever amen.

I don't understand why I'm not getting hired anywhere. If employers knew all the work I was doing to GET a job, if they knew I was a JOBSEARCHING MACHINE, I think they would hire me in an instant!

I'm sorry your search has been so slow-going. I'm sure it's beating you down a bit, at least it would me. Maybe you should be an employment recruiter, you certainly know of all available jobs, right? heh. Have you thought about using bribery during the interview? What about threats? lmao.

Seriously though, I hope something you will *love* turns up very quickly. Good thoughts are coming your way. :-)

Heh, being an employment recruiter would be kind of fun, though I think The Girl would be better at that than I would, seeing as she's a sales goddess and all.

Perhaps I should invest in the help of the mafia!

Maybe you should try more interesting cover letters.

Thanks! I hadn't seen that site before (but almost all of those jobs are on idealist.org)!
