Last night, Jennifer and I attended a birthday party for
volumeat11's wife Melissa. It was quite TEH AWESOME. It was held at one of those paint-your-own-pottery places (Clay Time in Shrewsbury) and I will admit that I was dubious. There were about 6+ couples there (5 boy-girl couples, us, and I think 2 single dudes) and a whole lotta guys, and at first I was like, "Hunh. This is going to be interesting." They had a big party room where you could bring your own food and drink, which was pretty cool. They gave us the low-down on pottery-painting and sent us to choose our pieces and start painting.
I have never seen so many straight guys in a room painting pottery. It was amazing! Everyone was getting into it, working really hard and having a great time. Straight guys were saying things like, "Where is the puffy paint? I need the puffy paint." It was an experience worthy of The Fab Five.
Jen and I chose matching little plates to both save money and complement each other. We didn't plan our plates together or anything but decided they would be sushi plates for when we learn how to make our own sushi. I was fascinated by our plates - they so totally were infused with our completely different personalities! Jen made this beautiful and ornate Asian scene (sunsent, mountains, etc.) and everyone kept goo-gooing over it. Everyone was so impressed with my girl! I ended up painting a cartoon-like dead fish skeleton in the middle of the plate. (Hey, it fit the sushi theme!) Good times.
Afterward, there were many delicious desserts and then we cleaned up and headed to Jeff&Melis's place for a little while. We crapped out early because we're older than dirt, but had an excellent time all the way around. Their friends were very cool and funny, and we liked them a lot. I always get a little concerned when we're meeting new people (especially new couples), but my concern was totally unfounded and everything was amazing.
YAY!
